US officials have serious concerns that Israel's aerial defense system would not be able to stand up against a large-scale Hezbollah attack if an all-out war were to occur, CNN reported on Thursday. According to the report, Israeli officials told the US they are planning to shift resources from southern Gaza to northern Israel in preparation for a possible offensive in Lebanon. “We assess that at least some” Iron Dome batteries “will be overwhelmed,” a senior administration official told the American news outlet. According to an Israeli official, it would be more likely if Hezbollah conducted a large-scale attack principally using precision-guided weapons, which could be challenging for the system to defend against. A separate US official confirme...
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to Aaron and say to him: “When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall cast their light toward the face of the menorah (Vayikra 8:1-2)”  Aharon was distressed. He felt left out and marginalized. The Tribal Princes brought beautiful and significant offerings to mark the dedication of the Mizbeyach (altar): Animals, gold, silver. Incredible gifts of enormous value were brought to initiate this sacred space. But Aharon was not included. Neither he nor his tribe were part of this grand dedication. But God tells Aharon, “Do not despair; your lot is greater than theirs for I have given you (and your descendants) the mitzvah to kindle the Menorah.” (Rashi 8:2) God is trying to soothe Aharon’s sadness...

NJ Transit service into and out of New York Penn Station is suspended Thursday afternoon due to power issues on an Amtrak line, NJ Transit announced. Amtrak said rail service between New Haven and Philadelphia is suspended while crews work on the power issue. The cause of the suspension is "reports of a malfunctioning circuit breaker" which caused a loss of power on the tracks between New York Penn Station and Newark Union Station. Amtrak later said a brush fire in Secaucus was also causing issues for trains. "As a result of two separate issues in the New York area, Amtrak service is temporarily disrupted between Philadelphia and New Haven," Amtrak said in a statement. "The issues are a brush fire in Secaucus, N.J., and a malfunctioning circuit breaker resulting in a ...
Today, Baltimore officials announced a landmark lawsuit against some major companies. The suit is against PepsiCo, Coca Cola, Frito Lay and plastic manufacturing companies for their roles in creating "a plastic pollution crisis." Baltimore alleges these companies created a public nuisance by creating products they know will cause harm to the environment. When littered, these plastic bottles cause damage to the wildlife. They contain chemicals that make their way into the water and soil. Recent studies show microplastics have even been found in human organs. “We are continuously working to make Baltimore a greener, more resilient city that is ready to take on the climate challenges facing the entire world and one that prioritizes the health of our residents,” said Mayor Bra...

Rachel Goldberg-Polin and John Polin, the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who is being held hostage in Gaza, expressed disappointment that the eight dual American-Israeli hostages are given little media attention in a CNN interview with Jake Tapper on Wednesday. Of the eight dual American-Israeli hostages, five (Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Edan Alexander, Omer Neutra, and Keith Segal) are assumed to be alive, and three (Judith Weinstein Haggai, Gadi Haggai, and Itay Chen) are dead, according to the AJC. Rachel Goldberg-Polin said she found it “shocking that the vast majority of Americans have no idea that there are eight US citizens, currently right now as we are speaking, being held hostage in Gaza.” Hostages are not a monolithic group Despite the war bei...

A mob of teens threw traffic cones and bottles at a Jewish man on a Brooklyn street, police said Wednesday. The 41-year-old victim, dressed in Orthodox Jewish garb, was walking near the corner of Lorimer and Meserole Sts. in Williamsburg around 11:45 p.m. on June 6 when the kids began to shout antisemitic statements at him as he passed, cops said. The teens pelted the stranger with traffic cones and bottles before taking off. The victim suffered minor injuries in the attack and did not require medical attention. The NYPD’S Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the attack. Cops on Wednesday released images of the teens in the hopes someone may recognize them. The city has seen an uptick in antisemitic incidents since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, whi...
The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a tax on foreign income over a challenge backed by business and anti-regulatory interests, declining their invitation to weigh in on a broader, never-enacted tax on wealth. The justices, by a 7-2 vote, left in place a provision of a 2017 tax law that is expected to generate $340 billion, mainly from the foreign subsidiaries of domestic corporations that parked money abroad to shield it from U.S. taxes. The law, passed by a Republican Congress and signed by then-President Donald Trump, includes a provision that applies to companies that are owned by Americans but do their business in foreign countries. It imposes a one-time tax on investors’ shares of profits that have not been passed along to them, to offset ot...
A 3,300-year-old ship’s cargo with hundreds of intact amphorae discovered 90 km from shore at a depth of 1.8 km on the Mediterranean Sea floor This is the most ancient ship ever found in the world in the deep seas – ninety kilometers from northern Israel’s coast * This dramatic find is the first proof of its kind attesting to the skill of ancient mariners – they were able to traverse the sea without a line of sight to the coast * The ship’s cargo was found during a standard seafloor survey by Energean, a leading natural gas E&P company operating in the East Mediterranean, and is being investigated by the Israel Antiquities Authority * In response to this discovery Energean mounted a unique operation to physically extract and bring up sample vessels from t...
Maryland lawmakers continue their push for complete federal funding to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Representative Kweisi Mfume, the democrat who represents Maryland's 7th District, is one of the main sponsors --but says the bill isn't moving as fast as he would like. Mfume was on talk radio in Baltimore Wednesday with an update on the Bridge relief Act--proposed legislation which would federally fund 100% of the bridge rebuild, which has a price tag of just under $2 billion. "The stand-alone bill is making its way through Congress, as anybody would tell you, that's a slow process," said Mfume. Also considered is Mfume's push--with co-sponsor republican Representative Andy Harris, who represents Maryland's 1st District--for an amendment to the National ...
