The school’s consumer sentiment tracking goes back to 1952, and its index of consumer sentiment hit an all-time low of “49.8” this month.
The previous low was 50-flat, which was hit in June 2022 at the peak of pandemic-period inflation.

Washingtom, D.C - Apr. 25, 2026 - President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off the stage by Secret Service at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday.
Vice President JD Vance and some members of Trump’s Cabinet who were also in attendance were also rushed out.
At least six shots were fired in the lobby that leads to the dining room where the event was being held Saturday night.
The cabinet was evacuated and the scene was locked down, amid a report of a suspected gunman entering the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Venue.
