Baltimore, MD - Sept. 1, 2024  - As the month of Elul and the Yomim Noraim quickly approach, now is the perfect time to reevaluate. With internet devices and their distractions being ever-present in our lives, what better way to enhance our spiritual lives and reconnect with what’s important than to make a Kabolah, a pledge to limit our online interactions? Small, measurable, and attainable goals can make a significant impact. Consider committing to one or more of the following through Yom Kippur: Strengthening your filter settings Removing an app you frequently use Turning off your phone during dinner Putting your phone aside during in-person interactions Designating a specific room in your home for online activities Leaving your...

Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 3, 2024  - It’s time for a shift in perspective. The news from Israel has ranged from bad to horrific, especially with the devastating murders of six hostages. The frustration and helplessness have led to finger-pointing and blame, leaving many feeling depressed and ready to give up. Yet, there is a glimmer of hope. The school year has just begun. This morning, as I walked to work, I saw girls in pristine white shirts, tucked into perfectly pleated navy blue skirts. Their new backpacks were filled with clean notepaper and sharpened pencils, their faces bright with smiles, and their braids adorned with vibrant bows. New possibilities, a fresh start—my heart was filled with hope. It’s Rosh Chodesh Elul, the beginning of a new month. One m...
The Justice Department announced criminal charges Tuesday against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other militants in connection with the Oct. 7, 2023, rampage in Israel. The criminal complaint filed in federal court in New York City includes charges of conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, resulting in death. "The charges unsealed today are just one part of our effort to target every aspect of Hamas’ operations," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a video statement. "These actions will not be our last." Sinwar was appointed the overall head of Hamas after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and sits atop Israel’s most-wanted list. He is believed to have spent most of the past 10 months living in tunnels under Gaza, and it is unclea...

A senior Israeli official told mediators in recent days that Israel has agreed to withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor in the second phase of a potential hostage deal with Hamas, Kan 11 reported. This is despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's insistence that remaining in the corridor is "ensuring that we will not have more and more October 7's, like Hamas has promised." A source familiar with the talks said that the Israeli position includes insisting on an Israeli presence in the Philadelphia Corridor in the first phase of the deal, including the reduction forces, but withdrawing completely from the Corridor in the second phase. Meanwhile, US National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby stated that the US is "working on a proposal that will ensure the r...
Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 3, 2024 - Chodesh Elul Tov! After many years at a recent networking event, I met up with a long-time friend who is now a published author. As we begin Elul and prepare for 5785, after the tumultuous 5784, now is a good time to share her passion and work.  "It's about more than just books. I'm on a mission to inspire children worldwide with a love for Israel and to educate them about our Jewish homeland," explained Sara-Ester Varnai. She has originated and designed a book series, Kids Discover Israel, to inspire children, and to empower them to stand strong and to be proud of being Jewish. Each volume in the series of historical novels explores a different ancient, archaeological site in a fun and unique way. The original...
Last Friday the Satmar Hasidic sect celebrated 45 years since the passing of the Grand Rebbe, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum. As part of the anniversary ceremony held by the Satmar Rebbe, with the participation of thousands of Hasidim, the Rebbe spoke about the difficult problem of housing prices in the local community. In recent years Kiryas Joel, home to many Hasidic in New York, has seen a drastic increase in apartment prices. The price per square meter jumped from $1,800 five years ago to $6,000 today – an increase of about 400 percent. In response, the Rebbe established a special committee in collaboration with the city mayors. About two months ago, a new municipal law was passed limiting apartment prices in new projects to $3,000 per square meter. However, realizing that the impleme...
Masked anti-Israel protesters are demonstrating on Tuesday outside of one of the entrances to Columbia University, chanting, "Free Palestine!" and holding signs urging the Ivy League school to "divest from death" as students are trying to get to their first day of classes.  The demonstrations come after a series of protests rocked the New York City-based university this past spring, which generated worldwide media attention and more than 100 arrests. The anti-Israel activity also comes just days after Hamas killed six hostages, including 23-year-old Israeli American Hersh Goldberg-Polin. Hamas had been holding them captive – and continues to hold nearly 100 others – since they carried out terror attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. At least one prot...
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), a member of the 'Squad,' appeared to blame Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the deaths of Israeli hostages who were kidnapped and executed by the Hamas terrorist organization. In a post to X on Monday, Jayapal welcomed the strike declared by Israel's national labor union and protests calling for the Israeli government to do more to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza. "Today’s labor strike & protests are extremely important. Netanyahu has no interest in a ceasefire — he’s prioritized his own political survival while sacrificing hostages & tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians," Jayapal wrote. "The US must use the entirety of our leverage to end this war." Her comments came as the ...
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, on Tuesday called for an independent investigation into "reports" about the execution of six Israeli hostages by Hamas last week. “We are horrified by reports that Palestinian armed groups summarily executed six Israeli hostages, which would constitute a war crime,” the UN Human Rights Office wrote on X. The post added that Turk "calls for independent, impartial and transparent investigation and for perpetrators to be held to account." On Saturday, the bodies of six Israeli hostages, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Ori Danino were recovered from a tunnel underneath Rafah last week. Autopsy results showed that the six innocent hostages were executed by multiple gunshots ...
Chairman of National Unity Party, MK Benny Gantz, spoke on Tuesday at the legal conference of the Tel Aviv Bar Association and commented on the incitement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to the hostage deal. "I would like to state the obvious here – Netanyahu is not a murderer and I condemn the incitement against him. Sinwar is a murderer, Hamas and Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Guards – they are our enemies. But Netanyahu has lost his way and regards himself as the state. And this is dangerous. He is the leader of the misconception of survival in power at all costs. That is why he will not make the required legal, economic, social and security reforms," Gantz said. Gantz criticized Minister Yariv Levin. "Even in these difficult days, the Minister of ...
The United Nations (UN) Security Council will meet this Wednesday for the first time to discuss the issue of the hostages. The meeting follows an appeal by Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, after the barbaric murder of six hostages. Following Ambassador Danon's address, the US, UK, and France requested a meeting of the Council. This will be the first official discussion by the Security Council on the subject of the hostages since October 7. Ambassador Danon stated: "After 11 months since the kidnapping of hundreds of innocent civilians, it is certainly time for the Security Council to address this issue. I thank the representatives of the United States, Great Britain, and France for their efforts in convening this meeting." "The Security Council must condemn the ter...
