Seattle, WA - Dec. 19, 2024  - Workers at seven Amazon facilities went on strike Thursday, an effort by the Teamsters to pressure the e-commerce company for a labor agreement during a key shopping period. The Teamsters say the workers, who authorized strikes in the past few days, are joining the picket line after Amazon ignored a Dec. 15 deadline the union set for contract negotiations. Amazon says it doesn’t expect an impact on its operations during what the union calls the largest strike against the company in U.S. history. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters say they represent nearly 10,000 workers at 10 Amazon facilities, a small portion of the 1.5 million people Amazon employs in its warehouses and corporate offices. At one warehouse, located in New York...

Baltimore, MD – Dec. 19, 2024 – The city is gearing up for a cold weekend as temperatures continue to drop. Thursday remains mostly sunny and brisk, with highs in the mid to upper 40s. On Friday, expect increasing clouds with sprinkles and flurries possible by evening. While this disturbance brings a slight chance of snow showers across Maryland, no accumulation is anticipated. However, if heavier snow showers coincide with colder nighttime temperatures, a light grassy dusting could occur, particularly in northeast Maryland. Highs will be in the low 40s, with snow showers most likely in the late afternoon and evening, especially west of the Blue Ridge Mountains and in northeast Maryland. The weekend ushers in an arctic blast, bringing daytime highs down to the 30s and ove...

A Georgia court of appeals disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team from prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump in his election interference case on Thursday. The court did not toss Trump's indictment entirely, but Willis and the assistant DAs working in her office now have "no authority to proceed." "After carefully considering the trial court’s findings in its order, we conclude that it erred by failing to disqualify DA Willis and her office," the filing states. "The remedy crafted by the trial court to prevent an ongoing appearance of impropriety did nothing to address the appearance of impropriety that existed at times when DA Willis was exercising her broad pretrial discretion about who to prosecute and what charges to bring."  The c...

U.S. authorities are considering a ban on China's TP-Link Technology Co over potential national security concerns after its home internet routers were linked to cyberattacks, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. In August two U.S. lawmakers urged the Biden administration to probe the Chinese router-manufacturer and its affiliates over fears their Wi-Fi routers could be used in cyber attacks against the U.S., according to a letter seen by Reuters. The Commerce, Defense and Justice departments have opened separate probes into the company, with authorities targeting a ban on the sale of TP-Link routers in the U.S. as early as next year, the report said. An office of the Commerce Department has even subpoenaed the co...
