When one of our babies needs help, we all show up    That's what our community does. We take care of each other, especially the littlest ones.   Right now, a 3-month-old baby named Baruch is in the hospital fighting a serious kidney condition. His treatments aren't fully covered, and no family should have to carry that alone.   So let's carry it together. Every gift, big or small, helps a family focus on what matters most: getting their baby healthy and home.    I look at my tiny baby sleeping peacefully in the ICU. But my heart knows the truth this is only the beginning of our battle. A battle for his life and for my strength to keep going.   My name is Miriam. My baby’s name is Baruch.   He is only two months ...

When Karl Bushby left the southern tip of Chile on November 1, 1998, he had just $500 in his pocket and a plan to walk home to Hull, England. The former British paratrooper estimated the journey would take about 12 years. Instead, what became known as the Goliath Expedition stretched into a 28-year adventure covering approximately 36,000 miles. Bushby set two rules for himself: he would not use transportation to advance the journey, and he would not return to the United Kingdom until it was complete. Visa restrictions sometimes forced him to leave countries before he could continue. During those breaks, he would return to Mexico or the United States, but whenever he resumed the expedition, he had to pick up at the exact spot where he had stopped. The route took him through South and Cent...

Have you ever wondered where in Shemoneh Esrei we pray to be blessed with children? I was recently speaking to a talmid of the great Gaon, Rav Zvi Kushelevsky — who remarkably was blessed with his only child at the age of eighty-eight — and asked him if he ever inquired of his Rebbe where in davening he requested for this blessing. He told me that indeed he did and his Rebbe said in the blessing of Refaeinu. At first, it seemed odd to me that this was the appropriate place to daven for children. But as it was the week of the portion we read with the miraculous birth of Yitzchok — the link to the eternity of the Jewish nation through all his progeny, something suddenly struck me. When Avimelech abducts the beautiful Sarah after Avraham introduced her simpl...

Former President Barack Obama mocked President Donald Trump’s White House renovations, joking that the building looked like “Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” At a campaign rally in Georgia on Wednesday, Obama used the reaction to his remark to question the administration’s priorities, particularly its handling of rising prices. “They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke, not to inflation, but to that joke,” Obama told the crowd at the rally for Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms. Obama also pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s appearance outside a Cheesecake Factory to defend the restaurant, using the episode to underscore his argument that the administration was payin...

Vice President JD Vance has sent a letter to Iran’s national security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, stressing that negotiations to avert potential U.S. strikes would require discussions about Iran’s nuclear program. The letter focuses on restarting ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran and outlines a possible negotiation framework rather than a detailed peace proposal. President Donald Trump was reportedly enthusiastic about the outreach. The timing of the letter remains unknown. Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has said Iran would not negotiate with the United States unless its demands were met. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said he was unaware of the letter, an...
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party accused Arab-led parties of stealing the election, without providing evidence, as final results were expected to confirm that his bloc had fallen short of a Knesset majority. Preliminary projections gave Netanyahu’s bloc 53 seats in the 120-seat parliament, compared with 48 for opposition parties and 19 for Arab-led parties. Arab voter turnout surged to record levels, strengthening the parties’ potential role in determining Israel’s next government. The allegations followed a request by the Central Elections Committee for the Shin Bet to investigate possible interference by unspecified foreign entities. The committee said it knew of no basis for claims of widespread violations of election integrity. Qatar den...
A Torah scroll fragment believed to have been used by Nazi SS soldiers as wrapping paper during the Holocaust is expected to be donated to a Holocaust remembrance organization in San Diego after Israel’s Foreign Ministry intervened to stop its sale. Oslo-based Valkyrie Historical Auctions listed the handwritten calfskin fragment on Oct. 18, estimating its value at $1,500 to $2,000. The auction website showed a winning bid of $8,500, though it remains unclear whether the sale was completed. The auction house initially said Nazi soldiers had used the parchment to wrap a package sent to Germany, but a representative later disputed that account. The consignor said the fragment was found at a public market in Poland more than 30 years ago. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar directed th...
