Firefighters have gained control over the fire in the Jerusalem hills after more than 24 hours, the Fire and Rescue Service says.
It says that firefighters will continue working over the coming hours, albeit at a lower intensity than they had been, to prevent new fires from cropping up.
With the blaze under control, the fire service says it has opened an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Earlier today, the Jewish National Fund, or Keren Kayemet L’Yisrael, said around 20,000 dunams (5,000 acres) of land had been destroyed.
That area includes around 13,000 dunams (3,000 acres) of forest.
Baltimore, MD - May 1, 2025 - Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is touting that April 2025 had the fewest ever homicides recorded in the city, with five deaths.
According to a press release from Scott's office, homicides are down 31.6% and non-fatal shootings are down 27.1% compared to last year, and 2025 has seen Baltimore endure the fewest number of homicides in recorded history.
So far in 2025, there have been 39 homicides, as compared to 57 at this same point in 2024.
There have been 102 non-fatal shootings so far in the city in 2025, down from 140 by May 1 in 2024.

Over 100 teams of firefighters continued to battle fires in the hills west of Jerusalem for a second day Thursday, but appeared to make gains in containing the blazes overnight, with firefighting planes from European allies expected to arrive later in the day.
As Israelis celebrated Independence Day, authorities reopened roads that had been closed a day earlier and let all evacuated residents return home, but warned that the fires remained uncontained and could flare back up later Thursday.

This past week was Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. A day set aside to reflect on the six million kedoshim who were murdered during the Holocaust simply because they were Jews.
But Yom HaShoah is also a time to remember those who survived – the ones who walked out of the darkness carrying nothing but their emunah and the will to rebuild.
I recently wrote about my grandparents, Yehuda and Chana Friedman, a”h. They were extraordinary people who lived through the war, losing most of their family members in the process. But they held on to their faith, and somehow, they didn’t just survive, they thrived.
Like many survivors, they dreamed of getting out of Europe and starting over. They had only a few relatives in America....

Thoughts on the New Month of Iyar
The word “Iyar” is an acronym for “Ani Hashem Rofecha,” I am God, your Healer. Iyar is considered a month of healing for both body and soul. Am Yisrael left slavery in Egypt during the month of Nissan, and in Iyar went through a process of recovery and strengthening. May we merit to feel this healing even today.
Iyar is illuminated by a few special days: On the 14th, we mark Pesach Sheni, which offered a second chance for those who missed the first Pesach. This day teaches us that it’s never too late to rectify things. On the 18th, we celebrate Lag BaOmer, the anniversary of the passing of towering Talmudic luminary Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, author of the Zohar Hakadosh.

Since Wednesday morning, a massive forest fire has been raging and rapidly spreading in the Judean Lowlands, leading to the evacuation of residents from nearby towns.
Currently, there are five active fire hotspots: Highway 3, which has been closed to traffic, Canada Park, Neve Shalom, Mesilat Zion, and Mitzpe Harel.

A man was arrested for allegedly attempting to ignite an open field in southern Jerusalem, Israel Police announced on Wednesday. A civilian reported the suspect, a man in his 50s from Umm Tuba, a neighborhood in East Jerusalem, and the man was caught after a short pursuit.

The report noted that after decades of progress in reducing the two major air pollutants, 156.1 million people — 46 percent of all Americans — are living in places that get failing grades for unhealthy levels of ground-level ozone pollution, or smog, and fine particle pollution, or soot. Baltimore, MD - April 30, 2025 - General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles across its Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands in the U.S. due to potential manufacturing defects that can cause engine failure.
The recall covers certain Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs; Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Suburbans and Tahoes; as well as GMC Sierra 1500s, Yukons and Yukon XLs between model years 2021 and 2024.
According to recall documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles share a gas engine that may have connecting rod or crankshaft component problems, due to supplier manufacturing or quality issues.
