Washington, D.C.- May 27, 2025  - Parents purchasing a new car seat in the next year will want to be aware of an important safety update: Starting June 30, 2025, all car seats sold in the U.S. must meet new federal safety standards aimed at improving protection during side-impact collisions. The regulation, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is a major move toward reducing child fatalities and injuries in what experts consider one of the most dangerous types of crashes.  The Department of Government Efficiency claimed Friday the Social Security Administration (SSA) has "marked" approximately 12.3 million people with Social Security numbers as dead. The listed ages of the millions of people were at least 120 years, according to DOGE, which posted on social media platform X the SSA has carried out a major “cleanup” of its records. “After 11 weeks, @SocialSecurity has finished this major cleanup initiative: ~12.3M individuals aged 120+ have now been marked as deceased,” DOGE wrote. “Some complex cases remain, such as individuals with 2+ different birth dates on file. Baltimore, MD - May 27, 2025 - Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger is hoping state’s attorneys around Maryland can talk with the governor about juvenile crime because he says the system isn’t working. Shellenberger says “younger” juveniles are committing violent crime — and that more needs to be done the first time juveniles enter the system so that “we won’t see them again.” “That’s the place that I think we are falling down, is we are not doing enough to make sure we don’t have to re-arrest them,” Shellenberger said. He says even though juvenile justice laws changed, the system isn’t working with increased caseloads. That’s not only in Baltimore County b...
The opening of the humanitarian aid distribution centers marks the beginning of the end of Hamas rule, an Israeli source told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday as the IDF announced the opening of two large food distribution centers, which it has said should be able to feed up to 600,000 Palestinians over the course of a week. The two centers are located one at Tel Sultan in Rafah in deep southern Gaza, and one at the Morag Corridor, a bit north of Rafah. A third is expected to open up near Khan Yunis in mid-southern Gaza, and a fourth in central Gaza, though it is still unclear if these other facilities are days or weeks away from opening. Sources told the Post that the food centers would get up to their maximum food distribution capacity relatively r...
Israel and Syria have engaged in direct face-to-face meetings in recent weeks aimed at de-escalating tensions along their shared border, according to a report by Reuters citing five sources familiar with the matter. These contacts, a rare development between the long-time adversaries, follow months of indirect back-channel communications facilitated by intermediaries. Reuters noted the talks began after Islamist rebels, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in December. The Syrian side has reportedly been represented by senior security official Ahmad al-Dalati, who now oversees both Quneitra and Sweida provinces. The identities of the Israeli participants remain undisclosed, though sources indicated they are likely security officials. A...
President Trump is instructing federal agencies to identify and sever remaining contracts with Harvard University, further tightening the screws in its fight with the Ivy League institution.  The letter from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) asks all federal agencies to help in a review to terminate or transition federal government contracts with Harvard and its affiliates. A copy of the letter was shared with The Hill by a source familiar with the matter. The letter accuses Harvard of engaging in racial discrimination in justifying the termination of contracts. “As relevant here, GSA understands that Harvard continues to engage in race discrimination, including in its admissions process and in other areas of student life,” the letter sta...
NPR and a trio of Colorado public radio stations sued the Trump administration in federal court on Tuesday over the executive order seeking to cease all federal funding to NPR and PBS. President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this month instructing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and other federal agencies "to cease Federal funding for NPR" and other public media outlets. NPR has vowed to challenge the order "by all means available," and CEO Katherine Maher took action.  "The Executive Order is a clear violation of the Constitution and the First Amendment's protections for freedom of speech and association, and freedom of the press. It is an affront to the rights of NPR and NPR's 246 Member stations, which are locally owne...
As Crisfield Mayor Darlene Taylor sees it, the low-lying Maryland town has no future unless it can hold back rising water. Computer models suggest that the adjacent Chesapeake Bay could get high enough by 2050 to trigger daily floods that are deep enough to stall cars on roads. Hope arrived in the form of a federal grant program created during the first Trump administration under the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program helped rural communities like hers to invest in massive projects to fight disaster threats, ranging from wildfires to floods. Crisfield officially got word from FEMA last July that it had secured $36 million from the program to launch the first phase of its massive flood-protection initiative. “Eve...

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) said it has begun distributing food aid in the Gaza Strip, with additional aid trucks scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. In a statement, the foundation also condemned threats from Hamas targeting humanitarian organizations supporting aid distribution at GHF’s Safe Distribution Sites. It further accused the terror group of trying to prevent Palestinians from accessing humanitarian supplies at the designated locations. “It is clear that Hamas is threatened by this new operating model and will do everything in its power to see it fail,” the foundation said in its statement. “The safety and security of aid workers and civilians is non-negotiable. GHF and its partners are committed to protecting the teams on the ...
