Israel is refusing Hamas demands to release a high-profile terror mastermind in exchange for hostages, according to reports.
Hamas terrorists have demanded the release of Marwan Barghouti, the former leader of the late Yasser Arafat’s Fatah party, since August, presumably to help the group maintain power in the Gaza strip, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Barghouti is serving five life sentences for his role in the murder of five Israelis in 2000 during the second Palestinian intifada, which raged until 2005.
He was also a leader in the first Intifada, from 1987-1993.
While Israel at one point considered releasing Barghouti, it is now objecting to granting him and other Palestinian prisoners their freedom, the Jerusalem Post reported.
“Israel has a vision of alternative l...
DeepSeek, the Chinese app that sparked a $1 trillion US market meltdown this week, is storing its fast-growing troves of US user data in China – posing many of the same national security risks that led Congress to crack down on TikTok.
The artificial intelligence chatbot topped the charts in Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store on Tuesday. DeepSeek has been downloaded more than 2 million times since its debut on Jan. 15, with most coming in the last three days, according to AppMagic.
While rival chatbots including ChatGPT collect vast quantities of user data, the use of China-based servers by DeepSeek — created by math geek hedge-fund investor Liang Wenfeng — are a key difference and a glaring privacy risk for Americans, experts told The Post....
Billionaire Elon Musk vowed Tuesday to bring home the two astronauts who have been stuck in space for about eight months “as soon as possible” – and blasted the Biden White House for not retrieving them sooner.
The SpaceX CEO and “Department of Government Efficiency” head said in a social media post he was asked by President Donald Trump to rescue Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have both been in space since last June as part of what was initially meant to be a weeklong mission.
Plans involving a SpaceX capsule have been in place to help the pair step on solid ground again since Joe Biden was president.

Jan 29 (Reuters) - Amazon.com (AMZN.O), opens new tab was sued on Wednesday by consumers who accused the retailing giant of secretly tracking their movements through their cellphones, and selling data it collects.
According to a proposed class action in San Francisco federal court, Amazon obtained "backdoor access" to consumers' phones by providing tens of thousands of app developers with code known as Amazon Ads SDK to be embedded in their apps.
This allegedly enabled Amazon to collect an enormous amount of timestamped geolocation data about where consumers live, work, shop and visit, revealing sensitive information such as religious affiliations, sexual orientations and health concerns.
"Amazon has effectively fingerprinted consumers and has correlated a vast amount of ...
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he will order the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare a migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay for as many as 30,000 migrants.
The U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, already houses a migrant facility - separate from the high-security U.S. prison for foreign terrorism suspects - that has been used on occasion for decades, including to hold Haitians and Cubans picked up at sea.
Trump's border czar Tom Homan said later on Wednesday that the administration would expand the already existing facility and that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency would run it.
"Today I'm also signing an executive order to instruct the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to begin pr...
Meta Platforms has agreed to pay roughly $25 million to settle a 2021 lawsuit that President Trump brought against the company and its CEO after the social-media platform suspended his accounts following the attacks on the U.S. Capitol that year, according to people familiar with the agreement.
Of that, $22 million will go toward a fund for Trump’s presidential library, with the rest going to legal fees and the other plaintiffs who signed onto the case. Meta won’t admit wrongdoing, the people said. Trump signed the settlement agreement Wednesday in the Oval Office.
Meta declined to comment.
Serious talks about the suit, which had seen little activity since the fall of 2023, began after Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg flew to Trump’s Mar-a-La...
Syria's de facto leader Abu Mohammed al-Julani was named president for a transitional period, the Syrian state news agency (SANA) reported on Wednesday, citing commander Hassan Abdel Ghani.
Syria's constitution was also suspended and the existing parliament dissolved, according to the announcement by the spokesperson for the Military Operations Command.
Julani was also authorised to form a temporary legislative council for the transitional phase which will carry out its task until a new constitution is adopted, SANA reported, citing Abdel Ghani.
The announcements emerged during a meeting in Damascus attended by commanders of armed groups that fought alongside Julani's Hayat Tahrir al-Sham to oust Bashar al-Assad from power.

Former Sen. Bob Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison Wednesday for promising to swap the power of his office for gold bars and other bribes, capping the New Jersey lawmaker’s extraordinary downfall after a half-century political career.
A federal jury last summer found Menendez, 71 years old, guilty of bribery, fraud and illegal foreign-agent offenses. The Democratic lawmaker, who until his indictment chaired the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced his resignation from the Senate after he was convicted.
Before handing down the prison term, U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein said that at some point in Menendez’s career, the lawmaker had lost his way. “The public cannot be led to believe that you can get away with b...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hosted Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, in his office on Wednesday afternoon, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced.
Witkoff was set to discuss the next phase of the hostage exchange deal with Netanyahu, which will include the release of all the remaining 64 hostages from Hamas captivity, some of whom are confirmed to be dead, according to reports on Tuesday.
It was announced on Wednesday that Arbel Yehoud, Agam Berger, and Gadi Moses are to be released from Gaza on Thursday.
The timing of announcing the identities of the three hostages slated to be released coinciding with Netanyahu hosting Witkoff corroborates this previous report.
Witkoff, accompanied by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Derm...
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird vowed to "look at all available options" to ensure Costco is following federal and state laws as the retail giant clings to the last vestiges of DEI ideology eroding under President Donald Trump's watch.
"We're calling on Costco to ditch DEI and to follow our Constitution, to follow our civil rights laws and not pursue race-based or gender identity-based hiring practices. Those are illegal," Bird, a Republican, said Wednesday on "FOX & Friends First."
Attorneys general from 19 states, including the Hawkeye State, have put pressure on Costco to denounce DEI and reflect Trump's recent executive order booting DEI programs out of federal agencies and warning private sectors to do the same.
"We have a letter that went to Costco from 1...
The White House Office of Management and Budget has rescinded the federal aid freeze, according to a memo obtained by CNN from a Trump administration official.
“OMB Memorandum M-25-13 is rescinded. If you have questions about implementing the President’s Executive Orders, please contact your agency General Counsel,” the memo reads.
The White House budget office had ordered the pause on federal grants and loans, according to an internal memorandum sent Monday, which unleashed confusion and anxiety even as the White House said it was not as sweeping an order as it appeared.
Though White House aides publicly blamed the media for causing the confusion, arguing that none existed within the building, the administration had received a flood of calls from lawmakers and state o...

Baltimore, MD - Jan. 29, 2025 - Although the Mesivta is in high gear getting our new campus ready for move-in, some things just cannot be pushed off. Our annual special getaway, “Shabbos Chizuk,” is one of them. So, this past Thursday we braved the sub-freezing temperatures and travelled in style to the magnificent, snow covered, Aishel HaTorah Retreat Center in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. This once-a-year event serves as an opportunity for much of our Rabbeim, staff, and others involved with the Mesivta to spend an extended weekend together with the Talmidim.
We departed after a morning of learning, arriving just in time for a BBQ supper and settling in with personalized welcome packets. Following Maariv and night seder we gathered in the spacious dining room fo...
