Baltimore, MD - Dec. 12, 2025  - Dear BJL Reader, Below is a transcript of the Hesped I gave at Ohr Someyach in Eretz Yisroel a few weeks ago.  The loss of Rabbi Hauer is still so raw.  It helps me to read and remember so many things about him.   Good afternoon, everyone. First, thank you to Rabbi Breitowitz. It is such an honor just to be here and get to see him a couple of times a year. My name is Dovid Fink. I have been a talmid of Rabbi Breitowitz for about forty years. I was first a talmid of his at the University of Maryland Law School, when he was teaching Sales and Secured Transactions and Commercial Paper. He was known as the greatest professor in the university. But every time you saw him in the law school he had seforim in his hands, he was runn...

Baltimore, MD - Dec. 13, 2025 - Snow will fall fast at times — up to an inch per hour — mainly overnight between midnight and 5:00 AM early Sunday. Western Maryland and areas west of D.C. won’t see much; many of those spots may not even reach an inch. For Baltimore and the central corridor, the heaviest snow is expected right along I-95, especially north of Laurel and into Baltimore County and Harford County. Most places in that zone should get 1–3 inches. There may be a narrow strip where totals get close to 5 inches, but it’s hard to pinpoint because it depends on how the heavier snow bands set up. Right now, that “max zone” looks most likely somewhere along I-95, north of central Harford County. Snow should taper off and move out by late mor...

Yosef dreamt a dream which he told to his brothers, and they hated him even more. He said to them, "Hear, if you please, this dream which I dreamt: Behold — we were binding sheaves in the middle of the field, when, behold! — my sheaf arose and also remained standing: then behold! — your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf." His brothers said to him, "Would you then reign over us? Would you then dominate us?" And they hated him even more — because of his 'dreams' and because of his talk. (בראשית לז ה-ח) In a simple reading of the text, Yosef initially shared a dream with his brothers, which aroused their hatred towards him, although the nature of the dream is not depicted. He then asks them to listen to an apparent second d...
Jerusalem, Israel - Dec. 11, 2025 - At Jerusalem’s Menachem Begin Heritage Center on Wednesday evening, U.S. Ambassador  Mike Huckabee joined Olga Deutsch, Vice-President of NGO Monitor, and founder Prof. Gerald Steinberg for a wide-ranging discussion. Huckabee was well into his remarks when he told the audience countries should “take a hike” from the ICC’s politicized accusations and push back against the unfair condemnation of Israel. He criticized the unquestioned use of casualty figures delivered by the Gaza authorities. "Dumb cannot be fixed, but ignorance can be fixed," he told the attentive audience.  Accepting unverifiable information is not acceptable. He emphasized that silence is a response, and we must speak up against...
Baltimore, MD - Dec. 11, 2025  - Two fast-moving winter weather systems known as clippers will move through Maryland this weekend. Combined, the systems could potentially bring up to four inches of snow to some parts of the state, according to the latest forecasts. The first clipper is expected to pass over the Baltimore region Friday afternoon into the evening hours and could impact the after-work commute, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang said in their latest forecast. Lack of moisture to fuel the storm could limit overall snow potential, according to the National Weather Service; however, if the system strengthens, up to an inch of snow is possible for the Beltway area. "We’d venture there’s a 10 to 20 percent chance of an i...
Washington, D.C. - Dec. 11, 2025 - A federal judge in Greenbelt, Maryland, on Thursday ordered Salvadoran migrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia ordered released from ICE custody, capping — for now – an extraordinary, 10-month legal fight that has spanned two continents, multiple federal courts, and prompted dozens of hearings in the aftermath of his removal. The order from U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis comes after she tried and failed for months to ascertain the Trump administration's plans to deport Abrego Garcia to a third country, after he was taken into ICE custody in late August. "Since Abrego Garcia’s return from wrongful detention in El Salvador, he has been re-detained, again without lawful authority," Xinis said in an order Thursday. "For this reason, the Court w...
