Finance Minister Permits Importing Honey To Israel Ahead Of Rosh Hashanah

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon signed the required documents permitting the import of 560 tons of honey before Rosh Hashana, only having to pay reduced taxes. This was done in light of predictions there will be a shortage of honey during the Tishrei Yomim Tovim.

The regulation states that two duty-free quotas will be opened for importing honey:

• The first is the quantity of 400 tons, which refers to large packages of more than 50 kg, and is intended for industry. The rate of import duty on honey in large packages, excluding the exempt quota, is NIS 10.60 per kilogram, but not more than 255%.
• The second is a quantity of 160 tons, which refers to packages of up to 1.5 kg, and the rate of importation of honey in small packages, excluding the exempt quota, is NIS 16.33 per kilogram, but not more than 55%.
