Baltimore, MD - Sept. 7, 2017 - Baruch Sh’hecheyanu v’kiyemanu lazman hazeh! On Sunday, September 3, Bais Hamedrash and Mesivta of Baltimore, under the leadership of HaRav Zvi Dov Slanger, shlita, hosted a long awaited groundbreaking ceremony, celebrating the beginning of construction of a beautiful, spacious new beis medrash wing.

Since its establishment twenty one years ago, the Yeshiva has certainly made its mark on the Baltimore community, and has had a great impact on the level of limud haTorah in our kehillah.  With a current enrollment of 150 talmidim, the beis medrash is “bursting at the seams,” and a new, spacious beis medrash will address a pressing need.

The groundbreaking event was graced with the attendance of HaRav Meir Zvi Bergman, shlita, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Rashbi in Bnei Brak and son-in-law of Maran HaRav Elazar Shach, zt”l, with whom HaRav Slanger has maintained a close relationship for many decades.  HaRav Aharon Feldman, shlita, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ner Yisrael was in attendance, as were many Rabbanim from the community, including HaRav Moshe Heinemann, shlita and HaRav Yaakov Hopfer, shlita.

Upon being presented with the honor of laying the foundation cornerstone, HaRav Bergman turned to HaRav Slanger and insisted that they join together in placing the stone.  Many community Rabbanim and lay leaders were then honored by covering the stone with cement and added their brachos and tefillos.

In delivering divrei brachah, HaRav Feldman commented that, “In Shamayim, the map of Baltimore just got bigger.” HaRav Bergman spoke glowingly of the Rosh Yeshiva’s mesiras nefesh for the Yeshiva and in his message to the talmidim he spoke of their good fortune in receiving the glorious mesorah from the Rosh Yeshiva and their esteemed Rebbeim.
