Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 11, 2017 - With international pressure on Israel to renew peace talks in Paris, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs MK Tzipi Hotovely spoke to international media at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel, on Wednesday evening.
The Paris Peace Conference is set for January 15, 2017. Israel has said it will not attend. The Paris Peace Conference comes soon after the US failed to veto UN Resolution #2334, which called for Israel to go back to June 1967 borders. While commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the Six-Day War of June 1967 have already begun, the Paris Conference is seen as the ultimate opportunity to influence Israel's policy regarding Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem's status.
Deputy Minister Hotovely addressed recent Israeli efforts and presented the government's position. Terrorism in Israel, is the same as streets of Europe, she stressed, in her opening remarks. The Paris Conference will distance the parties rather than encourage face-to-face negotiations. All of Hotovely's comments after the short official statement were off the record, much to the chagrin of journalists, who were instructed to turn off videos and cameras.
