Joliet, IL - A plane crashed into a resident neighborhood in a northern Illinois city on Thursday morning, torching the side of a home and leaving parts scattered in a street.

Joliet Fire Captain Jeff Allbert said crews are responding to the crash, assessing the scene and putting out a fire.

The captain said it was unclear whether the plane hit any structures or vehicles. The department is investigating the crash, but didn’t provide further details.

Aerial television video of the crash site showed broken plane parts in the street and in the yard and driveway of a home.

Across the street, the siding on one home was peeling from the structure as smoke rose from inside. Nearby fencing was destroyed and a tree was blackened.

Joliet is 40 miles southwest of Chicago.
