Baltimore, Md - July 20, 2015 - For many years Baltimore City has administered a free Summer Food Lunch Program for Baltimore City youth 18 years old and younger. The purpose of this non-income based program, is to ensure that all children have access to nutritious lunches even when school is out of session. This summer for the first time in the City’s history, as a result of our community’s initiative and in partnership with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, this program has been made available to the kosher observant children of Baltimore City.

The response so far has been an overwhelming success. In the first week alone this program has served approximately 1,200 kosher (cholov yisroel) nutritious lunches at Bnos Yisroel. This past Friday, the Baltimore City lunch program supervisors stopped by and were so happy to witness over 600 lunches being served. While there is no income qualification required to take advantage of the program, clearly there is a need in our community that this program is filling.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Mayor and her administration for recognizing the needs of our community and making sure that all of Baltimore City’s children are obtaining the services they need.
