Jerusalem - In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a first of its kind campaign has been launched in cities across Israel by an Organization calling itself ‘U’Bizchutan’ aimed at raising awareness among Charedi women on early detection of the potentially deadly disease.

YNETNEWS.com reports that reps for U’Bizchutan say posters promoting awareness will be placed in cities with large ultra-Orthodox sectors, including Jerusalem, Beitar Illit, Elad, Bnei Brak and Beit Shemesh.

Data provided by the Israeli Cancer Association reveals that more Charedi women succumb to breast cancer due to late detection than other Israeli women, due in large part to an unwillingness to discuss the topic because it is considered “immodest.”

U’Bizchutan is an Israeli political party formed in early 2015 by social activist Ruth Colian. It is the first political party in Israel focused on Orthodox Jewish women.

Colian said her group has taken it upon themselves to advance the awareness issue, but will be posting the signs at night so as to avoid potential confrontations within the Haredi sectors.
