Bodrogkeresztúr, Hungary - Two Yeshiva bucherim from London on their way to daven at the kever of Reb Yeshayala Kerestir were very seriously injured this afternoon in a car crash on a Hungarian road.

According to a member of Shomrim in the United Kingdom who asked to remain anonymous, the accident took place at approximately 4 PM.  The two young men, estimated to be approximately 20 years old and believed to be from Stamford Hill, had flown from London to Hungary to make the pilgrimage to Reb Yeshayale’s gravesite and had landed in Hungary just a few hours earlier.

Witnesses on the road leading to the city known today by the name of Bodrogkeresztúr said that the black Volkswagen driven by the two inexplicably slammed into a large truck without warning.

The accident took place in a remote area surrounded by fields, approximately eight minutes from Reb Yeshayale’s final resting place.  The Shomrim member estimated it took approximately 15 minutes for local emergency services to arrive on scene, with Hatzolah members from various locations including Stamford Hill and Kiryas Joel also responding to the accident.

Both of the two young men were reportedly unconscious immediately after the accident, but were somewhat responsive by the time emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.  The Volkswagen sustained major damage to both the front and back ends.

“That vehicle is finished,” the Shomrim member told VIN News. “Anyone looking at it would think the people in the car are dead. They are lucky to be alive.”

The two young men were airlifted to a nearby hospital in Mishkolc approximately 30 miles away and doctors hope to be able to transfer them to a more sophisticated facility once they are stable.

The Shomrim member estimated that the number of people traveling to Reb Yeshayale’s gravesite on his yahrtzeit has steadily increased over the past few years with 1,000 people from London making the trip this year.

The public is asked to daven for Binyomin Yosef Meir ben Shoshana Shireen and Yehuda Zev ben Irit.
