MK Anat Berko responds to foiled Hamas attempt to kidnap Jew on Hanukkah. 'They want to repeat Shalit deal' when 1,000 terrorists were freed

MK Dr. Anat Berko (Likud), a Member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, responded to Hamas' foiled attempt to kidnap a Jew over the Hanukkah holiday.

During October and November, the Shabak discovered that members of a Hamas terror cell from Kafr Tal, near Shechem (Nablus) were planning a terror attack.

In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the cell was planning to kidnap an IDF soldier or a Jewish civilian from a bus stop at one of the central junctions near Shechem in Samaria.

"There is nothing new in that Hamas is trying to kidnap soldiers and civilians as bargaining chips in order to release security prisoners. Even when they dig tunnels, their dream is to kidnap soldiers because their price is high," MK Barko told Arutz Sheva.

She said that the goal of the terrorists is to repeat their success in the Shalit deal, when over 1,000 security prisoners, including terrorists with innocent blood on their hands, were released in exchange for a single Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit. Many terrorists released in the deal returned to terrorism after their release and a number of Jews have been murdered by terrorists freed in exchange for Shalit in the six years since the deal.

"I thank the Shin Bet security service and the IDF for thwarting" the Hamas plot, she added.

"We see Hamas responsible for everything that happens in Gaza. The targeted assassinations and attacks we are doing in Gaza are good. If the firing [of rockets at Israel continues, we will escalate our responses and will not allow Hamas to drag us into [a confrontation] we do not want. Life in the Gaza vicinity is bustling, and we will not let Hamas destroy our lives and the joy of Hanukkah."
