Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 24, 2017 - The Lone Soldier Center in memory of Michael Levin (LSC) mission is to support lone IDF soldiers before, during and after their service in the Israeli Defense Forces. Lone soldiers do not have family living in Israel to provide for basic necessities such as laundry facilities, prepared meals, and advice.

On Thursday night, the LSC sponsored a benefit concert featuring composer, singer and musical performer Shlomo Katz, at Bet Shmuel Theater in Jerusalem, Israel. The LSC has four homes for male lone soldiers. This evening was specifically to raise funds to establish a home for female lone soldiers. A third of IDF lone soldiers are young women.

The performance was preceded by opening remarks from Josh Flaster, LSC National Director, an informative video on the LSC, and two female lone soldiers, from the United States, who were are serving as search and rescue instructors and spoke of the importance of the planned home.

Highlights of the evening included a duet by Shlomo Katz and his father, who had served as a lone soldier, and remarks which personalized the important service of all Israel's Defense Forces. 

The musical program began with Ani Maamin and ended with the song Shabbos Kodesh, Full disclosure, this writer was proud to serve on the planning committee for the benefit event, which supports the first home for female lone soldiers in Israel.
