The terrorist was supposed to turn himself in to police later in the day and begin serving a four-month sentence for incitement, Channel Ten reported. In addition, the report said, the terrorist had been in a Jerusalem court just a week ago Friday after he was arrested for violating a ban against his entering the Old City. The court cited and released him, after he claimed that he was not aware of the order.

The terrorist, whose name was not released to the public, was convicted on 15 counts of incitement against Israelis, seven counts of belonging to a terror group, and one count of attacking a police officer. Among the charges he was convicted of were several specific calls for terror and violence against civilians. His social media accounts were rife with praise for various terror groups and terrorist attacks.

Six others suffered various degrees of injury in the wake of the shooting attack. The attack took place near the French Hill Junction, close to National Police Headquarters. An Arab driver sped through an intersection coming off the highway and headed for an adjacent light rail station, opening fire randomly and hitting eight people.

The terrorist continued driving towards the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, and at one point halted his vehicle. He was met by Special Yassam Police forces, and he opened fire on them, injuring one critically and a second lightly. Police opened fire on him, eliminating him.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at the cabinet meeting Sunday and praised security forces who acted quickly in the morning’s terror attack.

“We experienced a shooting by a terrorist who was sitting in his vehicle,” Netanyahu stated at the beginning of the weekly meeting. “The terrorist injured several people. We are still investigating the details and security forces are working at the scene of the attack.”
