A young girl was killed after a car rammed into customers gathered at a pizzeria outside Paris.

The BMW ran into the restaurant Monday evening in Sept-Sorts, part of the Seine-et-Marne area about an hour from the French capital, according to police.

At least five people with serious injuries were reported in addition to the 8-year-old girl who died.

The driver was arrested shortly after the crash, though no motive has yet been offered.

French broadcaster BFMTV reported that the act is believed to be deliberate.
