A kosher abattoir has been targeted by a militant vegan protest group.

The Kedassia abattoir in Hackney Wick, east London on was attacked on November 8, by a group calling themselves East London Chicken Save.

The new group is part of an animal rights campaign which is targeting abattoir’s across Britain.

A YouTube video shows a group of activists forcing their way into the Kedassia building and abusing the staff inside by shouting “(expletive deleted)” and accusing them of “helping to kill babies”.

Police were called and the group were moved on, only to return and climb the walls where they filmed abattoir staff.

The protesters also blockaded the road outside the abattoir, stopping a lorry containing live chickens and attempted to free the birds.

In a separate demonstration which took place last week, protesters reportedly daubed antisemitic graffiti on the walls of the abattoir.

Graffiti included a Star of David, references to Nazism and the words “Kosher Holocaust”.

Shimon Cohen, who is a spokesman for the abattoir owners, said: “We could understand the first protest.

“We don’t agree with them but if you want to protest against eating animals that is your right.

“But with the second they have proved they are nothing more than a bunch of antisemitic vandals who will end up arrested.

“There are 760m chickens a year slaughtered in this country, and the Jewish community is responsible for just under one million. I wonder why there is such a focus on us.”

He said the abattoir was licensed and regulated and had a vet on the premises.

A statement on the Save Movement’s Facebook page said: “As with all 24 of our groups across the UK, East London Chicken Save attracts campaigners and activists from diverse backgrounds. We must accept however that demonstrators will respond to negative actions by slaughterhouse staff and any attempts to encroach on our fundamental right to protest and expose the awful truth of animal food supply to the public.

“The Save Movement has a strict Code of Conduct which rejects any form of violence, intimidation and racism, including antisemitism. Save Movement UK & Europe holds vigils at all slaughterhouses, be they kosher, halal or otherwise, in our efforts to document the final moments of all animals transported to abattoirs.
