Baltimore, MD - January 5, 2015 - American olim and Israeli natives, alike, are in for a real treat beginning this Sunday, January 10, when Pariser’s Bakery, a Baltimore institution since 1889, opens a branch in the Judean Hills of Ramat Beit Shemesh.

“I will go back and forth between the two bakeries, at the beginning, and eventually it will run on its own,” explains Israeli-born owner Motti Margalit. “As of now, we are selling mostly Israeli products---like burekas and challahs--and we are working on increasing the number of American products, so our American customers that move abroad will have a taste of home. We will sell the American products that our customers ask for, like chocolate tops, donuts, rye bread, éclairs, and 7-layer cake. Americans are used to their bakery tastes from home. We are working on getting the American ingredients that we need to make them with, to Israel, as we speak.”

Unlike it’s Baltimore namesake, the Ramat Beit Shemesh branch of Pariser’s Bakery, located on 56 Rechov Nachal Dolev, will serve more than baked goods. There will be an option to sit down and order everything from a cup of coffee to items on its extensive menu, which features all kinds of salads and sandwiches--and even pareve cholent on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings! Also, unlike the Baltimore location, it will offer dairy baked goods--all types of cheese burekas and cheese danishes--in addition to open Wi-Fi. It will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Fridays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Right now, there are a lot of Israeli products, but slowly the American products will be introduced,” says Motti. “Have patience and give us a try. If anyone has any comments or requests, don’t be shy. You can reach us by email or in person--let us know what you would like, and we will try, to the best of our ability, to fulfill it. Don’t forget, we are up against the politics and the bureaucracy of the Israeli government and the Israeli Health Department, as well as having to live up to the high standards of our hechsher, the Eida Chareidis, in getting the ingredients we need to make the American products to Israel. Hopefully, within a month or so, we will be able to get a lot of these things into our Ramat Beit Shemesh bakery. And, maybe things will be able to come from the Ramat Beit Shemesh bakery to the Baltimore branch, as well. That is a possibility, also.”
