Rockland County, NY - At least four people are known to be seriously injured in a car crash that will leave a main Monsey thoroughfare closed for at least six hours.

The incident took place in the area of Route 59 and Robert Pitt Drive near the Town Square shopping center.  The Journal News (http://lohud.us/2tf3vtl) reported that the accident took place just before 3 PM when a silver Toyota Corolla traveling westbound hit several pedestrians.

Ramapo police confirmed that one adult, an infant and a small child were injured and according to NBC reports (http://bit.ly/2teVtAT),  two other adults were also hurt in the crash.

The baby suffered cardiac arrest and her sister sustained traumatic injuries, with first responders performing CPR on the older girl before transporting her by helicopter to Nyack Hospital.  All three adults suffered serious injuries and were taken to Westchester County Medical Center.

The mother of the two young children is believed to have pushed her stroller into the intersection to cross Route 59 when the accident took place.  An overturned stroller was visible at the scene.

Multiple ambulances were called to the accident site.  The Toyota, with its shattered windshield, remains at the accident scene, along with a second vehicle, a white livery car belonging to Motty’s Car Service. It is unclear if it was involved in the accident.

Rockland County legislator Aron Wieder rushed to the scene saying he has written in the past to state legislators about the need for sidewalks at the busy intersection.

“You see that carriage — that’s a carriage from a beautiful, little child who was just involved in a car accident,” Wieder says in the video. “Her and her mother and her siblings were involved in a terrible accident.”

No charges have been filed at this time.  Route 59 will be closed to all traffic between Kennedy Drive and Route 306 as the investigation continues.
