Lakewood, NJ - A fender bender in Lakewood turned ugly on Wednesday as one of the drivers emerged from his car shouting anti-Semitic expletives and allegedly turning violent.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon and according to the Asbury Park Press, involved three cars.

34 year old Elijah D. Chandler of Jackson, was one of those involved in the accident.  Video posted to the Ocean County Police Blotter Facebook page showed Chandler in an angry tirade, claiming that an Orthodox Jewish man had caused the collision by running a red light and striking a car that was presumably involved in the accident.

“You [expletive] can’t even drive,” said Chandler. “Go back to your country.  Go back to your [expletive] country.  You [expletive] ran the light.  You trying to [expletive] beat the light like all of you [expletive]s.”

Police have yet to release the details of the accident but Chandler was found to have assaulted the driver of one of the vehicles involved, according to Lieutenant Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police Department.

The Shore News Network reported that witnesses said that Chandler opened the door of the car that he claims hit his vehicle and forcibly removed the driver from his car.

“Further investigation revealed that Chandler was harassing and trying to intimidate those involved as well as bystanders by yelling bias statements and threatening to physically harm them,” said Staffordsmith.

Staffordsmith told VIN News that police were still investigating the initial crash and could not disclose any details regarding the accident at this time.  Asked whether Chandler had any prior arrests Staffordsmith replied, “we’re not allowed to say.”

Staffordsmith also declined to say whether or not Chandler had a record any prior arrests.

Chandler was charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal mischief and two counts of harassment.

As of this morning he remained in the Ocean County jail in lieu of $41,000 bail.
