Bronx, NY - A city official say two New York City police officer have been shot in the Bronx.

It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday near E. 156th Street in the Melrose section.

The official was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.

The official said one of the officers was shot in the face; the other was shot in the arm.

The officers were taken to Lincoln Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The shooting happened less than five miles from where Mayor Bill de Blasio is delivering his State of the City speech.

A spokeswoman for the New York City Police Department said she did not immediately have information on the shooting
