National Council of Young Israel Calls on U.S. to Indict Terrorists Who Murdered 18 Year Old Ezra Schwartz, A"H,  an American Student in Israel, and Requests Transfer of Terrorists to the U.S. for Prosecution

The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) today issued the following statement in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in Israel. Two Israelis were murdered in a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, in addition, three people were killed in an attack in Gush Etzion. One of those killed, Ezra Schwartz was a young American student returning with friends to yeshiva after a day that included distributing food to Israeli soldiers in Gush Etzion and a visit to a memorial for the three Israeli teens who were killed in 2014. Ezra and his family are members of the Young Israel of Sharon, Mass.

“NCYI condemns these heinous terrorist attacks in the strongest terms possible. Just one year after a horrific massacre in Har Nof in which terrorists attacked innocent individuals engaged in prayer, we once again must mourn Israeli victims whose lives were savagely taken while in the act of prayer. These shocking and sickening attacks which led to even more bloodshed and death is yet another reminder of the indiscriminate and incomprehensible terrorist acts that our fellow Jews endure on an ongoing basis. We call on the international community to immediately and strongly denounce these terrorist attacks. It is important that the world comprehend that deadly acts of terror that are carried out in the State of Israel are no less significant than acts of terror that are perpetrated in other countries throughout the world.

We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who were killed in these horrific attacks and wish a speedy and complete recovery to those who were injured. We especially want to express words of nechama and support to Mark and Heni Schwartz, the extended Schwartz mishpacha, and the Young Israel of Sharon community on the loss of their son Ezra. The levaya will take place this Sunday in Sharon."

May G-d comfort the families of the victims among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

“In light of the fact that one of the victims of today’s terrorist attacks was an American citizen, we reiterate our call for the U.S. Justice Department to indict and bring charges that carry the death penalty against terrorists who murder American citizens in Israel. Following an indictment, the Justice Department can request that Israel hand over the terrorists to the United States for prosecution in an American court. It is time for the United States to take a stand against recurring acts of terror that take American lives and utilize its legal power to send a message to terrorists that killing innocent people will have serious and substantive consequences.”
