The United States' top general said on Thursday that Israel had not received every weapon that it has asked for, in part because President Joe Biden's administration was not willing to provide at least some of them. Washington gives $3.8 billion in annual military assistance to Israel, its longtime ally. The United States has been rushing air defenses and munitions to Israel, but some Democrats and Arab American groups have criticized the Biden administration's steadfast support of Israel, which they say provides it with a sense of impunity. "Although we've been supporting them with capability, they've not received everything they've asked for," said General Charles Q. Brown, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. "Some of that is because they&...
Supreme Court justices Uzi Fogelman, Yitzhak Amit, and Noam Solberg on Thursday evening issued an interim ruling, freezing support for yeshiva students who are of age to enlist. The freeze will take effect on April 1, when the government's interim order allowing the yeshiva students' enlistment to be delayed expires. The government will be forbidden from transferring funds "for the students of Torah institutions who did not receive an exemption or deferral from military service," and who did not appear for enlistment since July 1, 2023, due to the government's decision. The justices noted that the order was issued, in light of "the Attorney General's position on the illegality of transferring support monies after this time, and due to a lack of a source with any...

Baltimore, MD - Mar. 28, 2024  -  As plans form to clear a disabled ship and the debris of the Key Bridge so Baltimore's port can reopen, Maryland authorities on Thursday requested an initial emergency relief funding of $60 million from the Biden Administration. Analysts at Barclays told CNN insurance claims from the catastrophe that has closed the nation's ninth-busiest port could range from $1 billion to $3 billion. The bridge by itself could be worth more than $1.2 billion, said Loretta Worters, a spokesperson for the Insurance Information Institute. When President Joe Biden spoke about the fatal Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, he vowed that, with the help of Congress, the federal government would pay for the entire cost of the cleanup, as well as construct...

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara on Thursday submitted an answer to the Supreme Court regarding the Haredi Draft Law separate from the one submitted by the government. In it, she states that haredim must be drafted starting on April 1st and that support must be revoked from yeshivas after a short acclimation period. "With the deadline for the decision, and in the absence of an alternate normative framework, from April 1st, there will be no source of authority allowing for the continued blanket avoidance of procedures to draft yeshiva students. As the state stated in its preliminary response to the petition from February 21st, in this situation all state officials will be obliged to act on procedures to draft yeshiva students in accordance with the law. She added that "in the absence o...
Baltimore, MD - Mar. 28, 2024  - One of two drivers responsible for the death of six construction workers on I-695 last March, will spend the next 18 months behind bars. Melachi Brown previously pled guilty to six counts of felony auto manslaughter, and was facing up to 78 years in prison. However in January, the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office agreed to a plea deal. The way it breaks down is prosecutors asked for 10-years for each offense, totaling 60 years. However, they recommended all but three months be suspended for each count, which is how the 18 months came about. Brown will serve three-years of supervised probation upon release. Up until Thursday, Brown was placed on pre-trial home detention, with orders not to drive. He has no prior criminal record....

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison for fraud tied to the collapse of his digital exchange, capping his meteoric rise and fall. Less than two years ago, Bankman-Fried was the crypto king. The moptop millennial hobnobbed with heads of state, soaked up Caribbean views from his $30 million penthouse and vowed to use his wealth to better humanity. Last year, a jury found the 32-year-old guilty of stealing billions of dollars from FTX customers and defrauding investors and lenders to his crypto investment firm Alameda Research.  Bankman-Fried, standing with his hands clasped, told the judge before sentencing Thursday that he was haunted every day by what he had thrown away. “I was responsible for FTX, and its collapse is...

Petach Tikvah Israel – Six months after Hamas’ heinous attack on October 7th and the start of Israel’s Operation Iron Sword, Beilinson Hospital, one of the country’s largest medical centers, is treating soldiers returning from Gaza for epileptic seizures due to traumatic head injuries. Dr. Felix Benninger, Beilinson Hospital’s deputy director of its neurology department who specializes in epilepsy, is taking care of soldiers experiencing epileptic seizures and in need for preventive pharmacological treatment. “Since the seizures do not always present themselves immediately, it is possible that we will continue to see more soldiers returning from Gaza with epileptic symptoms for years ahead. Baltimore, MD - Mar. 28, 2024  - More than 24 hours following the Key Bridge collapse, ship arrivals and departures at the Port of Baltimore remain suspended. The impact is expected to be significant, not only for residents in the Baltimore region who depend on goods and services being delivered, but also port workers who could be missing out on a paycheck. State Senate President Bill Ferguson, who represents the area, estimates that number to be over 15,000. Together he and Maryland Delegate Luke Clippinger are drafting emergency legislation to provide "income replacement for workers impacted by this travesty." Exact details of the bill are unclear. It's expected to be drafted by week's end, just days before the General Assembly wraps up on April 8. The legislation to...
