The Jewish Community Center in Baltimore's Park Heights neighborhood was the subject of phoned-in bomb threats twice in January, which turned out to be hoaxes.

The president of The Associated Marc Terrill confirmed with WBAL-TV 11 News those hoaxes originated from the same robocall that threatened roughly 60 JCCs nationwide since the start of the New Year.

"I think our resilience is rather strong," Terrill said. "Nobody's been hurt physically, but emotionally it's so unfortunate that this is where we are in the history of our country."

About a dozen bomb threats were reported at separate JCCs across the country on Monday. On Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump addressed the situation.

"The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible and are painful and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil," Trump said to CNN.

The Anne Frank Center on Mutual Respect said the president's comments are too little, too late.

"The president's sudden acknowledgement is a Band-Aid on the cancer of Anti-Semitism that has infected his own Administration. His statement today is a pathetic asterisk of condescension after weeks in which he and his staff have committed grotesque acts and omissions reflecting Antisemitism," said Steven Goldstein, executive director at the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect.

Meanwhile, Terrill said he has no choice but to be in constant contact with federal law enforcement about the security of Jewish organizations.

"There's so much energy that's bound up in hatred that if we can convert that into getting to know our neighbors and understanding and celebrating differences, I think we are going to be a stronger America," Terrill said.

Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Baltimore) said he joined other members of Congress in sending a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Justice Department and the FBI asking for them to intensify their efforts to address the threats.

"It is imperative that immediate steps be taken to assess the situation, prosecute the perpetrators and deter future acts of intimidation and violence," Sarbanes said in a statement. "In every community of our nation – with the raised voice of every leader and citizen alike – we must relentlessly and tirelessly combat anti-Semitism in all its forms. We have an obligation to do so not just for the moral integrity of our own country but as a clarion call to other nations to resist such bigotry wherever and whenever it occurs.”
