Baltimore, MD - Nov. 8, 2016 - For the first time in almost 40 years, the 5th District of Baltimore City has a new representative in Baltimore City Hall. Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, the community’s grass roots candidate, against all odds, handsomely won the race for Baltimore City Council. Yitzy as he is affectionately referred to, began his journey to City Hall over a year ago. With strong community support Yitzy launched his campaign, capturing the imagination of the community that realized this was the time to support a candidate that was born and grew up in the District, where he, together with his wife Lauren, are raising their young family..

Nathan Willner, President of the Cheswolde Neighborhood Association, enthusiastically reflected, “Having someone who truly understands our community and the issues that are crucial for our neighborhoods will make all the difference. Even as the Democratic nominee for City Council, the difference Yitzy has made is already noticeable. Over the past Yom Tovim the unprecedented Police presence demonstrated what Yitzy can do. Yitzy’s election to City Council is a big win for the 5th District!”

Howard Friedman, internationally renowned political activist, who resides in the 5th District, when asked about Yitzy‘s election to City Council commented, “Yitzy‘s win today is a fantastic new beginning for the 5th District. I have complete confidence in his ability and dedication to our community and the entire District. I am impressed with his deep understanding of the issues facing Baltimore City and look forward to working closely with him in the years ahead.”

The newly elected Councilman stated, “I am so proud of the positive campaign we ran and the support we received from across the entire District. Now is the time for us to come together and focus on making our District the best of what Baltimore represents. I could not have accomplished this victory without the support of my wife, Lauren, my family, friends and our community. I do not take the faith that has been placed in my campaign lightly, and I am honored to represent the diverse, vibrant neighborhoods that make up the 5th District. Now it’s time to go to work making Baltimore the City we all know it can be.”
