Closing arguments will be heard this morning in the manslaughter trial of Baltimore City Police Lt. Brian Rice, the highest ranking officer charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

As with the last two bench trial in the Freddie Gray cases, prosecutors and defense attorneys can expect to be interrupted by Judge Barry Williams with questions about their case.

Prosecutors will argue as the officer in charge on the day Freddie Gray was arrested Lt. Brian Rice knew he was putting Freddie Gray at risk for injury and death when he didn’t put him in a seat belt when loading him into the police van.

The defense will argue Rice’s actions were reasonable.

After the arguments, Judge Williams will say when he’ll announce his verdict.  If it is like previous two cases, the judge will take two days meaning a verdict would be announced Monday.

Rice is charged with manslaughter, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment.

Earlier this week, Judge Williams dropped a second degree assault charge against Rice, citing a lack of evidence.

At the start of the trial, prosecutors dropped a second misconduct charge against Rice.

The trial lasted four days.  The prosecution rested its case Monday afternoon.  The defense rested on Tuesday afternoon.

Court resumes at 10 a.m.
