Arrest warrant issued for Jacob Marberger

CHESTERTOWN, Md. —Washington College canceled classes for a second day Tuesday and the school will remain closed until further notice as a warrant was issued for a student who is believed to have a gun

School officials said state and federal law enforcement officials are searching for sophomore Jacob Marberger. The Pennsylvania man was believed to have returned home over the weekend and retrieved a gun before going missing.

In a statement released by the school via social media, students who are able to leave campus and return home should do so after checking in with a Washington College staff member.

Students who live off-campus are being told to stay in their off-campus housing or return home.  Students who are unable to return home are being told to travel with a friend if possible, or should stay in their residence hall room until further arrangements can be made, school officials said.

Faculty and nonessential staff who are on campus are being told to leave and return home and those who are off campus are being told to stay away until further notice. Also, any afternoon or evening events are canceled until further notice.

Washington College canceled classes Monday over the gun threat and placed the Eastern Shore campus on lock down.

The college said Marberger was last seen on campus Sunday. His parents haven't been able to reach him nor do they know where he might be headed.

The Chestertown Police Department said Marberger is considered a missing person. He is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds with light skin and brown curly hair. He was last seen driving a 1997 dark green Range Rover with Pennsylvania tag beginning with “JWY."

According to his Facebook page, Marberger was active in student government, theatrics and his fraternity.

"We would like to reiterate that we have not had any direct threats against campus or any members of our community, but in the interest (of)caution, we feel closing campus until the situation changes is the best course of action," Washington College said in a statement. "Anyone who has contact with Jacob should contact law enforcement immediately. We will continue to update the community throughout the day as the situation evolves."
