Five months after he was diagnose with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Governor Larry Hogan says he is "100% cancer free, and in complete remission"

"This report means I'm not cured. It will take months to recover, and there is a chance the cancer will return," Hogan told an afternoon news conference also attended by his family and his entire cabinet.

Hogan underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, four surgeries and three spinal taps.

He praised the support of his family, his staff and fellow cancer patients who offered him advice.

Among those patients was 5-year-old Andrew Oberle of Glen Arm.

Oberle is being treated for leukemia at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where Hogan was treated.

The two have become pen pals.

"He told me to keep my hugging people close to me, along with nine other great pieces of advice," Hogan said.

Governor Larry Hogan  said with Thanksgiving next week, "I will be giving thanks for the amazing output of love and support I have received"

"Today doesn't mark the end of a journey for me, as it is the end of one chapter," Hogan added.

The Republican governor has continued working.

He did tell reporters that  his experience with cancer will not influence his decision on whether or not he will run for re-election in 2018.

Hogan's news was welcomed throughout the State House.

"I was heartened of the Governor’s positive health news. It is a tremendous gift for him and his family as we approach this holiday season.  My prayers continue to be with him for a speedy recovery," said Senate President Mike Miller in a statement from his office.

“This is great news for the Governor. The most important thing in life is your health. Governor Hogan has helped bring attention to this disease on behalf of many Marylanders facing similar struggles. I am very happy for him and his family,” said House Speaker Michael Busch.

"This gives me such personal joy, particularly as we look toward the holidays. So proud of our friend and Governor," said Comptroller Peter Franchot on Facebook.
