Something new and exciting is coming to Baltimore!

This winter, the Jewish Children’s Library (JCL) will open its doors, bringing the newest supply of Jewish books, CDs and DVDs to the Baltimore community. This brand new community resource will provide infants through middle-school aged children with the opportunity to enjoy a large selection of entertaining and inspiring books, CDs and DVDs that reflect Jewish values.

“We noticed from our own children and from speaking with others, that there is a definite void in the community,” says JCL Director, Faige Katz. “Many children don’t have access to all wonderful Jewish books, CDs and DVDs that are currently available. Everyone we spoke to about this idea is super excited.  Purchasing new materials is prohibitively expensive, and even for those who do buy books, many times they sit on the shelf after reading them once.”

The objective of the Jewish Children’s Library is to broaden children’s knowledge of Jewish values through entertaining venues.

After a year of hard work, brainstorming and strategizing, the board, which consists of Fayge Hackerman, Rachael Kossman, Chaya Monderer and Blumi Weil, is ready to make their dream a reality.  Every last detail is in place. It will be located in the spacious Youth Beis Medrash of Shomrei Emunah, a Shul located in the heart of the frum community with ample parking. It will boast over 1,000 titles, catalogued using an online accessible database and barcoding system.  There will be a book drop available at all times the Shul is open. Check-out will be automated. In addition, The Jewish Children’s Library plans on being open at key times that are convenient for frum families.

Participating in the following Chol Ha’moed activities will help stock the Jewish Children Library with exciting materials to benefit the community.  Yankee Doodle Art Studio on Wednesday, the first day of Chol Ha’moed; That Bounce Place and Climb Zone on Thursday, the second day of Chol Ha’moed.
