Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 28, 2024  - Every year before the spring holidays, the National Security Council (NSC) publishes an estimation of the threat of terrorism for Israelis traveling abroad. This is done to raise awareness among the Israeli public to the threat of terrorism in various locations around the world, because of the heightened threat of attacks against Israelis abroad, and in particular in light of Operation Iron Swords. In the last few years there has been an ongoing escalation in the threat against Israelis abroad, which has only become more severe since the beginning of Operation Iron Swords (October 2023), as there is increased motivation on the part of terrorists around the world to carry out attacks. Most apparent is the growing threat from Iran, along with Hamas ...

And the flesh of his thanksgiving peace offering shall be eaten on the day it is offered up; he shall not leave any of it over until morning.” (Vayikra 7:15)  Among the various sacrificial details contained in this week’s Parsha, the Torah teaches us the laws of the Korban Todah (thanksgiving offering). This offering was brought when a person was saved from a life-threatening or inherently dangerous situation. It was a sacrificial rite which enabled the individual to thank God for deliverance and salvation.    The Imrei Emes (Rav Avraham Mordechai Alter of Gur, 1866-1948) raises a fascinating question.  Every korban (sacrificial offering) has a consumption window. You are permitted to eat the sacrifice for a certain amount of time. Afte...

Joe Lieberman, one of the highest-ranking Jews in American politics, a pro-Israel senator and Al Gore’s running mate (and vice-presidential candidate) in the 2000 election, has passed away. It is important to remember Lieberman’s unique voice within the Democratic party, which stood in sharp contrast to the opinions voiced by some party members today. But I would like to focus on his other very significant, non-political legacy. The last time I met him was in New York. His book, The Gift of Rest: Rediscovering the Beauty of the Sabbath, had just been translated into Hebrew and he explained how much this translation meant for him. Lieberman said that he had written a book about Shabbat because he wanted to communicate to young Jews around the world that they don&r...

The United States' top general said on Thursday that Israel had not received every weapon that it has asked for, in part because President Joe Biden's administration was not willing to provide at least some of them. Washington gives $3.8 billion in annual military assistance to Israel, its longtime ally. The United States has been rushing air defenses and munitions to Israel, but some Democrats and Arab American groups have criticized the Biden administration's steadfast support of Israel, which they say provides it with a sense of impunity. "Although we've been supporting them with capability, they've not received everything they've asked for," said General Charles Q. Brown, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. "Some of that is because they&...
Supreme Court justices Uzi Fogelman, Yitzhak Amit, and Noam Solberg on Thursday evening issued an interim ruling, freezing support for yeshiva students who are of age to enlist. The freeze will take effect on April 1, when the government's interim order allowing the yeshiva students' enlistment to be delayed expires. The government will be forbidden from transferring funds "for the students of Torah institutions who did not receive an exemption or deferral from military service," and who did not appear for enlistment since July 1, 2023, due to the government's decision. The justices noted that the order was issued, in light of "the Attorney General's position on the illegality of transferring support monies after this time, and due to a lack of a source with any...

He noted that in another case, in the hospital's maternity ward, three terrorists were killed in battles with Nahal Brigade soldiers. Baltimore, MD - Mar. 28, 2024  -  As plans form to clear a disabled ship and the debris of the Key Bridge so Baltimore's port can reopen, Maryland authorities on Thursday requested an initial emergency relief funding of $60 million from the Biden Administration. Analysts at Barclays told CNN insurance claims from the catastrophe that has closed the nation's ninth-busiest port could range from $1 billion to $3 billion. The bridge by itself could be worth more than $1.2 billion, said Loretta Worters, a spokesperson for the Insurance Information Institute. When President Joe Biden spoke about the fatal Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, he vowed that, with the help of Congress, the federal government would pay for the entire cost of the cleanup, as well as construct...

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara on Thursday submitted an answer to the Supreme Court regarding the Haredi Draft Law separate from the one submitted by the government. In it, she states that haredim must be drafted starting on April 1st and that support must be revoked from yeshivas after a short acclimation period. "With the deadline for the decision, and in the absence of an alternate normative framework, from April 1st, there will be no source of authority allowing for the continued blanket avoidance of procedures to draft yeshiva students. As the state stated in its preliminary response to the petition from February 21st, in this situation all state officials will be obliged to act on procedures to draft yeshiva students in accordance with the law. She added that "in the absence o...
Baltimore, MD - Mar. 28, 2024  - One of two drivers responsible for the death of six construction workers on I-695 last March, will spend the next 18 months behind bars. Melachi Brown previously pled guilty to six counts of felony auto manslaughter, and was facing up to 78 years in prison. However in January, the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office agreed to a plea deal. The way it breaks down is prosecutors asked for 10-years for each offense, totaling 60 years. However, they recommended all but three months be suspended for each count, which is how the 18 months came about. Brown will serve three-years of supervised probation upon release. Up until Thursday, Brown was placed on pre-trial home detention, with orders not to drive. He has no prior criminal record....
