About the Position

Overview:
The Executive Director of Suburban Orthodox Congregation Toras Chaim will serve as its Chief Operating Officer, report directly to the Rabbi and Chairman of the Board (Chairman) and work closely with the youth director, gabbaim, executive board and additional lay committees as directed by the Chairman.

Responsibilities:

I. Management of Office, Facilities, and Human Resources
-Prepare and oversee shul’s administration and day-to-day operations
-Formulate management reports, such as membership and fundraising, for Chairman, Executive Committee and Board of Directors
-Supervise office staff, bookkeeper, Rabbis’ assistant, youth director and maintenance and custodial staff
-Hire, train, and evaluate administrative and custodial staff
-Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations with regard to employees and facility (including all necessary inspections and licensing)
-Help create synagogue master calendar and coordinate with other schedules
-Responsible for security and safety of synagogue property and maintenance and timely repair of facility (including kitchen), landscaping and snow/ice removal
-Maintain operating systems, including computers and network, office equipment, telephone, security system and other technology
-Order supplies and manage relationships with suppliers, vendors, and contractors
-Supervise preparations for synagogue and other ritual spaces for Shabbos, Holiday and daily minyanim
-Manage rental of facilities for family, community, or other uses

II. Financial Management
-Supervise cash flow and funding needs
-Prepare operating and capital budget reports for President, Executive Committee and Board
-Review payroll, member billing, and other financial statements as prepared by bookkeeper and other
-Strategize, supervise and personally solicit for building campaign and operating budget

III. Communications and Membership Relations
-Maintain shul web site
-Promote shul events and Rabbi’s community engagement
-Supervise new member applications/ approval
-Supervise publication of printed and electronic versions of weekly bulletin
-Prepare and/or review all other synagogue notices, announcements, and publications
-Interface with synagogue members for life cycle events and other needs, including soliciting for contributions associated with these events
-Maintain calendar of events for all shul programming, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Weddings, key community events and other life cycle events
-Work closely with Chairman, Officers, Executive Committee and other lay committees, attending committee meetings as needed
-Work closely with Rabbi, staff and youth director on all aspects of shul programming

IV. Relations Beyond the Synagogue
-Liaison with local schools, synagogues, JCC, Associated and other community organizations
-Supervise community-wide publicity and advertising
-Identify and maintain vendor contacts to ensure best service and price

V. Special Projects
-Fundraising for building campaign and operating budget
-Responsible for High Holiday arrangements, including reconfiguring seating, shul Shabbbos dinners and lunches, Shabbos Across America dinner, Purim Seudah and other shul events
-Supervise annual Journal Dinner including catering, journal, music, decorations, and program
-Other special projects as assigned by Rabbi, Chairman, Executive Committee or Board
