Magen David Adom reports a call came in on Tuesday, 3 Kislev at 1:20pm, for a man injured by a palm tree that fell on Derech Jabotinsky in Bnei Brak, apparently from the storm
North Korea is on its way back onto a very short list of countries the United States says sponsor terrorism. The designation, announced by President Donald Trump on Monday, will expand the already substantial array of sanctions the U.S. has imposed on trade with North Korea. It will clamp down further on the North’s access to banks and other financial institutions and, more importantly, deepen the stigma any potential trading partners will have to take into account before doing business with Pyongyang. Even though many of the punishments against North Korea have already been enacted under previous sanctions measures, putting any country on the list is a very serious move by Washington. There are only three other countries on the list: Sudan, Iran and Syria. Cuba, which had be...
British police say as many as 10,000 criminal cases may have been affected by alleged data manipulation at a forensics laboratory. Two people have been arrested by police investigating claims of tampering with results at Randox Testing Services, a company that tests samples for police. The National Police Chiefs’ Council said Tuesday that three-quarters of the cases identified were traffic offenses such as driving while under the influence of drugs. Others include violent crimes and unexplained deaths. Some 50 cases have been dropped as a result of the investigation — some after samples were retested and others because samples were no longer available. Gillian Tully of Britain’s Forensic Services Regulator said she could not give details of the allegati...

State-owned airline Air China suspended flights Tuesday between Beijing and North Korea due to a lack of demand, deepening the North’s isolation amid mounting U.N. sanctions over its nuclear and missile programs. The move followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to add Pyongyang to a list of governments that support terrorism but there was no indication that prompted Air China’s decision. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said he had no information. The suspension left North Korea’s Air Koryo as the only airline with regularly scheduled service to the North. Its website lists flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Dandong in China and Vladivostok in Russia. Beijing has supported U.N. curbs on North Korean exports meant to pressure the governme...
Agudath Israel of America, a national Orthodox Jewish organization, applauds President Donald J. Trump for his endorsement of providing federal financial relief to houses of worship devastated by hurricanes and other natural disasters.  The Office of Management and Budget’s recent supplemental hurricane recovery request to Speaker Paul Ryan explicitly notes the Administration’s support for legislation that would make houses of worship eligible for disaster relief funding. FEMA’s denial of disaster relief to houses of worship – when zoos and other nonprofits receive such aid -- has been a glaring inequity and indignity. Synagogues and other houses of worship provide vital services to their communities before, during and after natural disasters strike. And they ...

In the accompanying video, one can see sikrikim, who on Monday night the eve of 3 Kislev, tried to start a fire in the IDF Jerusalem Induction Center on Rashi Street. One can see the fire outside the complex as well as the garbage that was thrown in and around the entrance. ‘Z’, who was among those present, told B’Chadrei Chareidim News that they vandalized the place by turning everything around. They smashed the windows of the guard booth outside and set it ablaze in the hope the fire would spread to the building. Persons on location extinguished the blaze almost immediately. The protesters then caused random damage, including to the doors and equipment. They were apparently angered by the arrest of a chareidi female on Tuesday in the induction center.

New Jersey will move toward a $15 minimum wage next year, Democratic Gov.-elect Phil Murphy pledged on Monday alongside fellow Democrats who control the Legislature. “This is as high on the priority list as anything we’ve got,” said Murphy, who made a $15 minimum wage a centerpiece of his campaign, but stopped short of promising the legislation would be the first he enacts. Murphy’s appearance at the statehouse with Senate President Steve Sweeney, incoming Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross was the incoming governor’s first public event with legislative leaders. Murphy said Monday he’d like to reach $15 over three or four years, but stressed that specifics had yet to be worked out. Details of the bill were not immediat...
Construction workers in Germany have unearthed a giant concrete swastika on a sports field in the northern city of Hamburg. The German news agency dpa reported Tuesday workers were digging in the ground with an excavator to build changing rooms when they suddenly hit the four-by-four meter (13-by-13 foot) Nazi symbol. Members of the sports club at the Hein-Kling stadium in the city’s Billstedt district told dpa the swastika served as a foundation for a monument that was torn down decades ago. City officials say they want the swastika, which was buried 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) below the ground, gone as quickly as possible. Because it’s too heavy to be transported away, they are planning to destroy it with jackhammers.
