In the accompanying video, one can see sikrikim, who on Monday night the eve of 3 Kislev, tried to start a fire in the IDF Jerusalem Induction Center on Rashi Street. One can see the fire outside the complex as well as the garbage that was thrown in and around the entrance. ‘Z’, who was among those present, told B’Chadrei Chareidim News that they vandalized the place by turning everything around. They smashed the windows of the guard booth outside and set it ablaze in the hope the fire would spread to the building. Persons on location extinguished the blaze almost immediately. The protesters then caused random damage, including to the doors and equipment. They were apparently angered by the arrest of a chareidi female on Tuesday in the induction center.

New Jersey will move toward a $15 minimum wage next year, Democratic Gov.-elect Phil Murphy pledged on Monday alongside fellow Democrats who control the Legislature. “This is as high on the priority list as anything we’ve got,” said Murphy, who made a $15 minimum wage a centerpiece of his campaign, but stopped short of promising the legislation would be the first he enacts. Murphy’s appearance at the statehouse with Senate President Steve Sweeney, incoming Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross was the incoming governor’s first public event with legislative leaders. Murphy said Monday he’d like to reach $15 over three or four years, but stressed that specifics had yet to be worked out. Details of the bill were not immediat...
Construction workers in Germany have unearthed a giant concrete swastika on a sports field in the northern city of Hamburg. The German news agency dpa reported Tuesday workers were digging in the ground with an excavator to build changing rooms when they suddenly hit the four-by-four meter (13-by-13 foot) Nazi symbol. Members of the sports club at the Hein-Kling stadium in the city’s Billstedt district told dpa the swastika served as a foundation for a monument that was torn down decades ago. City officials say they want the swastika, which was buried 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) below the ground, gone as quickly as possible. Because it’s too heavy to be transported away, they are planning to destroy it with jackhammers.
The Trump administration on Monday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the latest travel ban to take full effect. A federal appeals court ruling last week allowed President Donald Trump’s newest version of the ban to partially take effect. That ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals allowed the administration to ban people from six mostly Muslim countries unless they have a “bona fide” relationship with someone in the U.S. Last month, a federal judge in Hawaii had blocked most of Trump’s third travel ban just before it was due to take effect. A judge in Maryland separately blocked it to a lesser degree, saying Trump could bar people from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen as long as they did not have “bona fide” relationships ...
A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order to cut funding from cities that limit cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the administration’s argument that the executive order applies only to a relatively small pot of money and said Trump cannot set new conditions on spending approved by Congress. The judge had previously made the same arguments in a ruling that put a temporary hold on the executive order targeting so-called sanctuary cities. The Trump administration has appealed that decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. “The District Court exceeded its authority today when it barred the President from instructing his cabinet members to enforce exist...
Egypt’s envoy to Israel visited the Knesset on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the late President Anwar Sadat’s historic trip to Jerusalem that lay the groundwork for the 1979 peace treaty between the two countries. While at the Knesset, Ambassador Hazem Khairat told Israeli legislators, “There is a real opportunity to open a new page with the Arab neighbors, based on coexistence and mutual understanding for a better future leading to peace.” After hosting Khairat for a meeting in his office, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein tweeted, “We discussed cooperation between the two countries and talked about bolstering it in the fields of technology, energy, agriculture and security.” “We also discussed our duty to help the peace process, in hope...
The White House says President Donald Trump plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. Trump and Putin spoke informally several times last week when they attended a summit in Vietnam. They agreed on a number of principles for the future of war-torn Syria. Putin hosted Assad at a Black Sea resort ahead of a summit later this week with Russia, Turkey and Iran, as well as U.N.-sponsored peace talks in Geneva. The Kremlin said Tuesday that Assad was called to Russia to get him to agree to potential peace initiatives drafted by Russia, Iran and Turkey as Russia prepares to scale back its military presen...
Some call it the great MO versus Yeshivish Community Divide. However, the question has not yet entered the list of “Shidduch questions” that are generally posed to parents of children who have now entered the phase of dating. Is it halachically proper to formally celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey dinner with one’s family? This is not to say that the Yeshiva community does not express appreciation for the wonderful freedoms that this country has championed both for its citizens and for peoples throughout the world. The greatest of our Rabbis have stated that the United States is a “malchus shel Chessed – a Kingdom of Lovingkindness” and that our thoughts and prayers should express appreciation for the wonderful nation in which we live. Indeed, ...

Soaring 12 meters high, the jumping tower, which is notoriously known as the “Eichmann” Tower, is the most formidable structure on the training ground. Jumping off the Eichmann Tower is a similar sensation to riding a zipline, ...
A federal investigation will look into possible civil rights violations by police in the St. Louis area in the two months since protests broke out after a white former police officer was acquitted in the shooting death of a black suspect. The U.S. Department of Justice announced the investigation in a statement Monday. The FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office in St. Louis also will help with the investigation. Protest leaders, Democratic U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay and others called for a federal investigation. More than 300 people have been arrested at protests since Sept. 15, when a judge ruled that Jason Stockley was not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of 24-year-old Anthony Lamar Smith. Several of those arrested have alleged heavy-handed arrests and even taunting b...
