Over 1,000 sign petition seeking to prevent Orthodox Jews from moving into town of Mahwah in northern New Jersey. A town in New Jersey has ordered an Orthodox Jewish organization to take down its eruv, or religious boundary, by early next month. Mahwah, which is located across the New York state border, told the South Monsey Eruv Fund to remove the white plastic piping from utility poles that it uses for the symbolically enclosed area by Aug. 4. An eruv allows observant Jews to carry objects and push strollers outside of their homes on Shabbat. The Orthodox community told The Associated Press that it had been given permission to hang the piping by the utility company. But town officials said the piping is banned because it is considered signage. More than 1,200 people hav...
Faking an emergency phone call to get out of an unpleasant situation is so overused it has become a cliche. But apparently not even the family of the president is above doing it. In an 11-page document to the Associated Press, Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, denied any collusion with Russia. Kushner was one of several people who during the campaign met with a Russian lawyer who promised damaging information from the Russian government on Hillary Clinton, according to emails released by Donald Trump Jr. Kushner is supposed to give his statement in a closed-door meeting with the Senate Intelligence Committee on Monday. Those involved said the meeting actually focused on the topic of Russian adoption and no information on Clinton was disclosed. Rob Goldst...

The Trump administration called on Iran to return a Jewish-American man who disappeared from Iran in 2007 while working on behalf of the CIA. The statement issued Friday by the White House said the United States is “redoubling efforts to bring home all Americans unjustly detained abroad,” naming specifically Robert Levinson, an American former law enforcement officer, as well as businessman Siamak Namazi, 48, and his father, Baquer, both jailed on espionage charges. The pilot of a U.S. Navy EP-3 surveillance plane took evasive action to avoid possible collision with a Chinese fighter jet during an encounter off the Korean peninsula, a Pentagon spokesman said Monday. The spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, said two Chinese J-10 fighters intercepted the U.S. plane Sunday in international airspace between the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea, in an area he described as west of the Korean peninsula. Davis said one of the Chinese planes approached at a high rate of speed from beneath the American plane, then slowed and pulled up, prompting the EP-3 pilot to take evasive action. He called the Chinese pilot’s action unsafe. “This is uncharacteristic of the normal safe behavior we see from the Chinese military,” Davis said. “There ar...

Last week, Egyptian-born American preacher Ammar Shahin delivered a Friday sermon at the Islamic Center of Davis, northern California, where he serves as Imam Memri reported. In it he cited a hadith, according to which the Muslims would fight the Jews on Judgment Day, and prayed to Allah to “liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews” and to “annihilate them down to the very last one,” not sparing any of them. “Oh Allah, make this happen by our hands. Let us play a part in this,” he prayed in the sermon, which was posted on the Davis Masjid YouTube channel. Imam Shah...

Dayan spoke about the attack that took place two weeks ago on the Temple Mount in which two policemen were murdered and declared, "It was deliberately done to hurt and incite and I think the Israeli response was correct until now. Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday morning spoke about the barbaric slaughter in the Friday night terror attack in Yishuv N’vei Tzuf. Speaking to Ynet, the senior cabinet minister said in this case, an IDF court should use the death sentence against the terrorist who was taken into custody. Lieberman was asked what punishment he feels should be used. He stated that the terrorist’s home must be razed for starters. He feels that over the years, clearly this has proven to be the most effective deterrent. In addition, he envisions canceling any and all benefits for the family, including entry to Jerusalem and crossing the Green Line into “Israel proper”. He explains he has supported the death penalty for terrorists in the past and feels this would...
As tensions continue to mount surrounding Har Habayis, senior Trump aide Jason Greenblatt is reportedly returning to the area, expected to arrive on Monday. The White House is hoping that Greenblatt will be able to lower tensions and bring a halt to what could escalate to an explosive situation surrounding Har Habayis. At the heart of the conflict is Israel’s placement of metal detectors on Har Habayis, a move being interpreted as Israeli sovereignty over the site, which is claimed by Muslims. Jordan, the PA (Palestinian Authority) and others are capitalizing on the situation, and in fact, Jordan is demanding the Israeli Embassy in Aman security agent who shot his attacker dead after being stabbed, be handed over for questioning and to stand trial. The Jordanians have the agent and ...
Pro-Palestinian Muslims protested Israel on Shabbos, July 22, outside the Israeli Embassy in London, UK.
Homebuyers faced surging prices and a shrinking number of properties for sale in June — causing the pace of sales to fall. Sales of existing homes slipped 1.8 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.52 million, the National Association of Realtors said Monday. The decline speaks to a troubling cycle for a U.S. housing market hampered by a worsening shortage of properties to buy. Despite solid demand in a relatively healthy economy for houses, sales listings have been steadily declining for more than two years. The resulting shortage has caused prices to consistently rise faster than wage gains, making it harder for more Americans to build up their net worth by becoming homeowners. Sales levels have improved a mere 0.7 percent over the past 12 months. The modes...

It is now the Nine days and recently, there has been an uptick in violent stabbings by resha’im bent upon murdering the innocent. Perhaps one way in which we can help address the violence transpiring in Eretz Yisroel is through strengthening ourselves in the Mitzvah of v’Ahavata l’rayacha kamocha. What follows are rulings of Rav Elyashiv zatzal on the Mitzvah of v’ahavta l’rayacha kamocha that were culled from a sefer put together by his grandson, Rav Israelson, and shown to him for approval. Some of the material, of course, may be obvious, but it needed to be articulated in order to get a bigger picture of this important Mitzvah. THE MITZVAH It is a Mitzvah incumbent upon every individual to love every member of of Klal Yisroel, as it says, “v&rsquo...
Charlie Gard's parents have decided to end their legal fight over the treatment of their terminally ill child. The months-long, emotionally charged case sparked a bioethical debate about end-of-life issues and captured the attention of world leaders, including Pope Francis and President Trump. Attorney Grant Armstrong said the boy's parents, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, are withdrawing their appeal of court orders that say Charlie's treatment should end, according to the Associated Press. Yates and Gard cried in court as their attorney said time had run out for their 11-month-old, after a U.S. doctor said it was too late to give the baby an experimental treatment on which the couple had pinned their hopes. Britain's High Court had been scheduled to con...
A 22-year-old California man has been charged with attempting to support terrorism by allegedly using social media to promote the Islamic State group and offering to join the organization, according to court documents. Federal prosecutors allege Amer Sinan Alhaggagi “went so far as to meet with undercover agents on multiple occasions to plan a potential terrorist attack,” said a court filing unsealed Friday. Alhaggagi, an Oakland, California, resident, has been in custody since November on unrelated identity-theft charges. His defense lawyer told the San Francisco Chronicle ( http://bit.ly/2upkuqY ) that the latest allegations are baseless and stem from idle talk in late-night internet chat rooms. “Amer is a very young and naive person, and it appears that he allowed ...
Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner denied Monday that he colluded with Russians in the course of President Donald Trump’s White House bid, declaring in a statement ahead of interviews with congressional committees that he has “nothing to hide.” He arrived shortly before 9 a.m. EDT on Capitol Hill. The 11-page statement , released hours before Kushner’s closed-door appearance before the Senate intelligence committee, details four contacts with Russians during Trump’s campaign and transition. It aims to explain inconsistencies and omissions in a security clearance form that have invited public scrutiny. “I did not collude, nor know of anyone else in the campaign who colluded, with any foreign government,” Kushner said in the prepared remarks ...
