Uber is taking to the skies with its next project — “flying cars” — even as all eyes are on its problems on the ground. On Tuesday, the embattled ride-hailing company announced plans for an on-demand network of electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically, like a helicopter. It wants to test a network for such vehicles by 2020. The company says its partners in this Elevate initiative include real estate companies, aircraft manufacturers, electric vehicle charger makers and the cities of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. President Donald Trump is proposing “the biggest tax cut” ever even as the government struggles with mounting debt, in an effort to fulfill promises of bringing jobs and prosperity to the middle class. White House officials on Wednesday were to release broad outlines of a tax overhaul that would provide massive tax cuts to businesses big and small. The top tax rate for individuals would drop by a few percentage points, from 39.6 percent to the “mid-30s,” according to an official with knowledge of the plan. Small business owners would see their top tax rate go from 39.6 percent to 15 percent, said the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the proposal before the White House announcement and spoke on condition of anonymity. Treasury Secretary Steve M...
Leading House conservatives are saying good things about a plan to revive the GOP health care bill. But an influential GOP House moderate is opposing the proposal, leaving party leaders to assess whether the idea could help one of President Donald Trump’s premier but most problematic priorities spring back to life. Republican lawmakers were meeting Wednesday to consider how to rescue the GOP drive to repeal much of President Barack Obama’s health care law. That salvage effort comes as bipartisan bargainers edge toward agreement on a separate $1 trillion budget bill that would prevent a partial federal shutdown this Saturday. While erasing Obama’s statute is solidly opposed by Democrats, the budget measure will need support from both parties because GOP conservatives oft...
HaGaon HaRav Meir Stern Shlita, Mora D’asra of Meron, released a psak halacha for Lag B’Omer stating no one is to light a bonfire before 4:00AM to avoid any and all chilul Shabbos by security forces and public transportation. Rav Stern also calls to push public transportation from 10:00PM to 2:00AM. Rabbi Mordechai Halprin, who heads the Vaad Meron, adds he hopes to have dozens of prominent poskim sign the psak halacha as they continue working to avoid all chilul Shabbos. He hopes to have Gedolei Yisrael Shlita sign as well. It appears that this year, more than other years in which Lag B’Omer began on motzei Shabbos, there is a growing momentum to push off the beginning of events with the lighting of the bonfire by the Boyaner Rebbe, Shlita, to avoid chilul Shabbos. T...
Two Democrats in the New York state legislature say the state should be required to release the state tax returns of any president who hails from New York state. The measure does not mention President Donald Trump by name, but it comes after the New York City Republican refused to release his tax returns during his successful run for the presidency last year. The requirement would apply to anyone holding high-level elected office, including the presidency, who has filed a New York state tax return. It would not be retroactive. Sen. Brad Hoylman of Manhattan and Assemblyman David Buchwald of Westchester County plan to formally introduce their legislation Thursday. Hoylman also has proposed requiring presidential candidates to release their tax returns in order to appear on the New Yor...

France’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that the chemical analysis of samples taken from a deadly sarin gas attack in Syria earlier this month “bears the signature” of President Bashar Assad’s government and shows it was responsible for the deadly assault. According to Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, France came to this conclusion after comparing samples from a sarin attack in Syria from 2013 that matched the new ones. The findings came in a 6-page report published Wednesday. The Kremlin promptly denounced the French report, saying the samples and the fact the nerve agent was used are not enough to prove who was behind it. Assad has repeatedly denied that his forces used chemical weapons and claimed that myriad evidence of a poison gas attack is made up. ...
The PA (Palestinian Authority) Committee for Support of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Hunger Strike on Tuesday, 29 Nissan, announced a general strike, a showing of solidarity with terrorists imprisoned in Israeli prisons. The strike impacts all PA autonomous areas, businesses and schools and the day’s events included a rally in support of the terrorists. While the PA is working to encourage hunger-strikers to continue, only about 1,100 of the 6,000 imprisoned terrorists undertook to hunger strike and hundreds have dropped out in the first week. Hunger strike organizers worked hard, albeit with minimal success, to enlist the support of the international community for the strikers and against Israel.

Baltimore, MD – April 26, 2017 - I couldn’t help but think, yesterday evening, as I was driving downtown to attend the Baltimore City Police Department’s Medal Day Ceremony, that just two years ago, to the day, protestors marched from the Baltimore City Hall to the Inner Harbor, one week after the arrest of Freddie Gray. The ensuing violence led to damaging at least five police vehicles and the pelting of police officers with rocks, as storefronts were smashed near Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Those attending the Orioles-Red Sox game were forced to remain inside the stadium for their safety, and six police officers were among the injured. My reminiscing set the stage for the very touching award ceremony I was about to witness at the Baltimore City Police Headquarters. Th...
For the third time in two months, a federal judge has knocked down an immigration order by President Donald Trump and used Trump’s own language against him. In a ruling on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Orrick quoted Trump to support his decision to block the president’s order to withhold funding from “sanctuary cities” that do not cooperate with U.S. immigration officials. Trump called the sanctuary cities order a “weapon” against communities that disagree with his preferred immigration policy, Orrick said. The judge also cited a February interview in which he said the president threatened to cut off funding to California, saying the state “in many ways is out of control.” The first comment was evidence that the administration inten...
In a new pashkavil signed in the name of Eida Gavaad HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss Shlita, Eida Chareidis Ravaad HaGaon HaRav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita and other members of the beis din, it explains that in light of the military draft and the arrest of persons who do not report for service, the Badatz is recommending to its tzibur to remain in the Diaspora rather than moving to Eretz Yisrael. It is added “We will not rest and we will not remain silent in Israel or abroad until permitted to maintain a Torah lifestyle and who can say if we will be permitted to continue living here in Eretz HaKodesh. Certainly, if the current situation continues, we will weigh the possibility to moving abroad to the Diaspora, which we hope will not occur. We are calling for an end to the gezeira and t...
