The question we need to ask is: Should we really be having our children raise funds for their Yeshiva or for any other organization for that matter? The whole concept raises no less than five questions. All of them would seem to be important questions. Let’s look at the issues one by one. TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS#1: Do the charitable organizations take into account the risks of traffic accidents? Traffic accidents happen all too often, and children are not always careful. It is a grave responsibility to have young children travel door to door, block to block, and crossing street after street. Even children trained in looking both ways before they cross sometimes make mistakes when they are thinking about other things or when they are fussing with an enveloped or counting money. It happens. ...

PA officials harshly condemn Trump's avowal to reverse longstanding US and UN policy and recognize united Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Palestinian leaders Monday accused Donald Trump of abandoning any hope of a two-statesolution after the Republican candidate said he would recognise Jerusalem as Israel's "undivided" capital if he won the US presidential election. Trump pledged Sunday during a meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu he would recognise Israel's claim over Arab east Jerusalem, which would break with decades of precedent and put Washington at odds with most UN member states. The official policy of the United States has been to refrain from recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to consider all neighborhood beyond the 1949 a...
US politics expert speaks about the importance of debates and gives his tactical recommendations for the candidates. As the world turns its eyes to Hofstra University in Long Island for the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Monday night, Arutz Sheva spoke with Professor Tamir Sheafer, an expert on American politics from the Hebrew University about what to expect in the hotly anticipated debate. TV network executives are saying that viewership for the debate could be as high as 100 million, a number only ever hit by the most watched program in America, the annual NFL Super Bowl. It would also surpass the record for presidential debate of 80 million set in 1980 (fittingly enough) by the Ronald Reagan-Jimmy Carter debate that saw the beginning of ...
Charlotte lifted its midnight curfew, signaling movement toward normalcy after a state of emergency was imposed following the shooting death of a black man by police last week that brought National Guard troops and armored vehicles to downtown street corners. A weekend without street violence was highlighted Sunday as the city hosted the NFL game between the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings without interruption. Still, protests continued for a sixth day since 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott was shot and killed Tuesday after a confrontation with Charlotte police. The first two nights of protests were violent, with demonstrators smashing windows, blocking part of an interstate through downtown, and burning the contents of a tractor-trailer. More than a dozen police officers were ...
Prior to writing my columns, I always try to think through an idea before I put it to paper.  This column was to be no exception and I actually began mapping it out in my mind several weeks ago.  Just when you think you have it all down, something comes along that you can’t ignore and it’s time for a rethink.  And so it happened last week as I was leaving the office for the day, my phone rang.  I saw the number identified as an old personal training client of mine from many years ago.  As a matter of fact, I can tell you that he is one of my original clients from when I was a relatively new fitness trainer.  Although we are in touch every now and then, his call was unexpected and unusual to say the least.  I would like to share the contents wi...
Donald Trump's campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, says Trump's comment that Lester Holt is a Democrat isn't a lie because the candidate didn't know Holt's voter registration. Trump tried to discredit Holt, Monday night's debate moderator, when he told Fox's Bill O'Reilly last week that "Lester is a Democrat. It's a phony system. They are all Democrats." Holt is a registered Republican. When asked about why Trump would make a definitive statement about something he didn't know, Conway told MSNBC's "Morning Joe": "He didn't lie. A lie would mean he knew the man's party affiliation." ___ 8:15 a.m. The two presidential campaigns disagree on whether moderators should fact-check the candidates' comments during debate...
“He is sitting and talking nonsense to the right and the left, while the situation is catching on fire. Nothing makes a difference for him.” A senior Egyptian intelligence official said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas lacks “intelligence” and “does not want to do anything” in a leaked phone conversation with Muhammed Dahlan, Abbas’s primary rival. The Turkey-based Mukmaleen network, which broadcasted the phone conversation on Sunday, identified the intelligence officer as Wael al-Safti, who is responsible for the Palestine file in the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate. Mukmaleen is considered critical of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's regime and has leaked unflattering tapes of the Egyptian president previously. ...

Oh, how fondly she remembered those days..... Sunlight streaming through her freshly washed windows…. Her scrupulously starched and ironed curtains fluttering in the breeze……. (Okay, now she was just being being silly. A) She didn’t own any starch B) she didn’t iron. ) And a carpet of a beautiful deep maroon hue. Oh how joyously, and with what careless abandon she would utter the words “Hey, why don’t you and Jerry come for the weekend?” And she felt ready! She was on top of the world!! Invincible! “Come one, come all!” she wanted to shout from the rooftops. “I’m on my game! Just walk right in folks, and make yourself at home in my spotless guest room!! I’ll never be caught unprepared!!” But that ...

Nonpublic schools across New York State welcomed news that the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has just begun invoicing $17 million in outstanding Comprehensive Attendance Policy (CAP) reimbursement. CAP is an important component of the Mandated Services program, a program which reimburses nonpublic schools for the cost of certain government mandated school functions.  Under CAP, NYS schools take attendance multiple times a day, and follow up on poor attendance patterns. The supportive logic marshaled by Rabbi Moshe Sherer, late president of Agudath Israel of America, integral to the enactment of the Mandated Services law over 40 years ago, was simple yet powerful.  While the government may hesitate to directly fund a sectarian educational institution, there is no c...
