'Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people.' Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that if elected president, he would recognize Jerusalem as the “undivided capital” of Israel, ending a long-standing US policy which has kept the American embassy in Tel Aviv. The two met for over an hour in Trump’s private residence in Trump Tower in Manhattan on Sunday. Among the topics of discussion were the Iran nuclear deal and the regional turmoil caused by the rise of the ISIS terror organization. During the meeting, Trump said that he “recognized Israel as a vital partner” in the “global war against radical Islamic terrorism,” a statement released by the campaign said. Ac...
President Obama calls Judea and Samaria 'Palestinian' - in contradiction to international law. Amid the countless words of analysis of US President Obama's address to the United Nations last week, precious little has been said about his use of the words "Palestinian lands." The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) is apparently the first and only organization to comment on it. "Surely Israelis and Palestinians will be better off if Palestinians reject incitement and recognize the legitimacy of Israel ... [and if] Israel recognizes that it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land," Obama said. The ZOA says that using the words "Palestinian land" to refer to Judea and Samaria "prejudges the issue of sovereignty and borders, and is not accordance wit...

Rabbi Schwartz, who heads the RCA’s national rabbinic court, is a prominent figure in the Modern Orthodox community. According to documents obtained by Haaretz, the Chief Rabbinate’s conversion department chief, Itamar Tu...

BEERSHEBA, Israel –  A senior Israeli military official says a massive underground barrier being built along the Gaza border to defend against Hamas tunnels should be completed in a matter of months. The Southern Command official said Sunday that the structure will include a wall deep below the ground as well as flooding parts of the roughly 60-kilometer (40-mile) border. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity under military briefing regulations, says the goal is to turn Hamas' underground network into a "death trap." During a 2014 war, Hamas militants managed on several occasions to make their way into Israel through a tunnel network. Israel destroyed some 32 tunnels during that conflict. The official says the military is investing great efforts to s...

Sitruk was hailed as "a tireless fighter against racism and anti-Semitism" by Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who oversees religious affairs. Born in French-controlled Tunisia in 1944, Sitruk was grand rabbi of France from 1987-2008, spiritual leader for Europe's largest Jewish community. Jerusalem (CNN) In Jerusalem's largest cemetery the deceased have a need that the living cannot fulfill: more space. The Givat Shaul cemetery, which sprawls across a hilltop on the northwestern edge of the city, contains more than 200,000 burial spots, and nearly every one is full, marked with a carved headstone and adorned with flowers and memorial candles. Burial spots cover nearly every acre of the cemetery, separated only by access roads and walkways. The graves form a neatly organized pattern across the entire area. Terracing the cemetery was the first way to create more space, with three-story structures dramatically increasing the available area. But even those spots are nearly full, since demand for burial in Jerusalem is so high. Jewish prophecy says the ...
NEW YORK — Since he entered the presidential race, it’s been Donald Trump’s style to break with convention. It’s no different when it comes to debate prep. The New York billionaire has skipped practicing a full debate as he gets ready for his first on-stage meeting with Hillary Clinton. While he has studied policy ideas and practiced answering questions he may face Monday night, experts who have been through the process call his decision to skip time-intensive mock debates a mistake. “I think he’s putting himself at an incredible disadvantage,” said Brett O’Donnell, a Republican strategist and veteran debate coach who compared Trump’s decision to a football team failing to scrimmage. Trump’s Democratic rival, Hillary Cl...
Antisemitic posters have been appearing on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley since a course openly hostile to Israel was first suspended and then permitted to be held this semester as planned, The Algemeiner has learned. The posters began cropping up when UC Berkeley announced it was reinstating “Palestine: A Settler Colonial Analysis,” decried by a campus watchdog group as “a classic example of antisemitic anti-Zionism.” One such poster referred to a coalition of 43 Jewish, civil rights and educational organizations that had written an open letter expressing concern about the course and disappointment in UC Berkeley’s vetting process, calling them “advocates for a foreign state” ...
One day after Ted Cruz endorsed Donald Trump, the Republican nominee whom he once accused of being a “pathological liar” and “sniveling coward,” the Texas senator was still explaining himself. He called the decision “agonizing.” He revealed that he did not ask Trump to apologize for insults to his wife and father. And he told Evan Smith, the founding editor of the Texas Tribune, that Hillary Clinton’s threat to the Supreme Court and the country was enough to move him off the fence. “You think a serial philanderer and pathological liar should be president?” asked Smith. Cruz paused. “I have had many, many disagreements with Donald,” he deadpanned. The audience, in one of the biggest rooms at the annual Texas Tribune Fes...

Three gunmen shot and wounded eight people including a 3-year-old girl on an east Baltimore street Saturday night, police said, adding the suspects fled and the victims were all expected to survive. The shooting erupted outside some rowhouses about 8:30 p.m. after the three armed men converged on the group from different points, Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said at a news conference. Davis, who went to the scene, said the shooting was a premeditated act of retaliatory violence in response to a Labor Day weekend shooting in which a man was fatally shot and two women were wounded, one of them pregnant. He did not immediately explain how investigators believed the shootings were linked. Davis said the victims could have recognized the gunmen but authorities haven...
