A group of East Coast states wants to help overhaul the way America pays for its decaying roads, and it’s starting with Monopoly money. Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Hampshire are proposing pilots to figure out how they might charge motorists a fee for the miles they travel – rather than taxing their gas, as state and federal officials do today. The I-95 Corridor Coalition, which represents transportation officials from 16 states and the District of Columbia, applied for a federal grant last month to test the idea. Officials would stitch together the policies and technologies needed to count the miles driven by 50 recruits from each of the four states, including state legislators, transportation officials or other willing guinea pigs. They would send out &ldq...

Beirut - A graphic video emerged Sunday showing the killing of five Syrian media activists captured by the Islamic State group last year. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the five were abducted in October and are believed to have been killed in December over their coverage of events in the eastern Syrian city of Deir el-Zour, half of which is held by IS. The head of the Observatory, Rami Abdurrahman, said news of the detention and killing of the activists was withheld because no bodies had surfaced and the families feared retribution for reporting the deaths. In the video, an IS narrator says the group is facing a media war and warns against reporting to the “crusaders” and “enemies of God.” The narrator says journalists who rep...
Washington -  Republicans are sprinting to shape up Donald Trump’s presidential campaign before the party’s national convention in three weeks, even as leading members of the party carry a deep antipathy or outright opposition to his claim on the GOP nomination. His campaign chairman said Sunday there’s a hiring spree in 16 states and the campaign is working with the Republican National Committee to solidify other matters. Paul Manafort said Trump is not all that involved in the race to organize an offensive against Democrat Hillary Clinton and catch up to her massive fundraising advantage. “The good thing is we have a candidate who doesn’t need to figure out what’s going on (inside the campaign ) in order to say what he wants to do,&rdqu...

Washington -  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Donald Trump needs to raise much more money, quickly, if he expects to win the presidential campaign against Democrat Hillary Clinton. Asked on ABC’s “This Week” whether the presumptive GOP nominee can win with the paltry fundraising he reported last month, McConnell says, “No…he needs to catch up and catch up fast.” Campaign finance reports show Trump entered June with just $1.3 million in the bank. Clinton’s war chest at the same time was $42 million. Trump has said his fund-raising will show improvement for the next reporting period. McConnell also refused to say whether Trump is qualified to be president. And he suggested he doesn’t expect the GOP platform to refl...

Jerusalem - Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon on Sunday said that the Finance Ministry had set up a 24-hour “situation room” to keep tabs on economic repercussions from the United Kingdom’s Thursday vote to break from the European Union. “We have a strong and stable economy that is prepared to deal with any scenario and challenge,” Kahlon said, noting that he was coordinating closely with Bank of Israel Governor Karnite Flug and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with whom he met over the weekend to discuss the British exit, or Brexit. The TA-100, representing the largest 100 companies trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, opened down roughly 3% Sunday, the first day of trading following the referendum. A successful appeal against New York University’s (NYU) Graduate Student Union’s (GSOC) motion in support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has great implications in the fight against the global anti-Israel movement, students who led the appeal campaign told The Algemeiner on Friday. Ilana Ben-Ezra and Samuel Zerin — members of GSOC for Open Dialogue on Israel and Palestine — said they applaud United Auto Workers International’s (UAW) decision against empowering the April GSOC BDS motion, which they claimed violated the UAW’s constitutional bylaws. UAW is the parent union of the Graduate Student Union. According to UAW, GSOC’s BDS resolution “is contrary to the position of the International Union.” Cit...

Rudy Giulian Tells 'Hannity' Brexit A Major Setback For Obama, Clinton, Kerry
President Barack Obama could count on Britain to back him at nearly every turn during his first 7½ years in office. He knew British leaders had the global clout and shared perspective to be powerful U.S. partners. But as Obama approaches the final months of his term, that sense of certainty has been shattered by the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union and by the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron, a close ally. In his public reaction to the vote, Obama offered assurances that the two countries would remain “indispensable partners” and that the special relationship would survive. He said he respected Britain’s decision and that he was confident in an orderly transition from the EU. Yet before the vote, Obama had warned in no uncer...
Jerusalem - Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday spoke of recent developments regarding Israel’s diplomatic processes with Turkey and the Palestinians. He stated that there has been “a lot of misinformation and disinformation” surrounding a pending reconciliation agreement expected to be forged this week by Israel and Turkey. The premier also addressed protest of the deal by the families of two IDF soldiers killed in the 2014 Operation Protective Edge, and whose bodies were never returned from Gaza. On Saturday, the families of fallen Israeli soldiers Lt. Hadar Goldin and St.-Sgt. Oron Shaul charged that the looming agreement with Turkey, which houses Hamas operations and other Islamic terrorism, does not stipulate the return of their sons&rs...
Washington - Conservative columnist George Will has parted ways with the Republican Party, changing his voter registration to “unaffiliated” because of the GOP’s support of Donald Trump. Will tells The Washington Post that he made the change several weeks ago. The news site PJ Media reports that Will discussed his decision during an event Friday for the conservative group the Federalist Society. Will isn’t saying whom he will support for president. He has been criticizing the billionaire businessman for months in his column for the Post and, in doing so, has drawn Trump’s scorn. Recently, Will wrote a column in which he urged Republican donors to “save their party by not aiding its nominee.” Will received a Pulitzer Prize for commentary ...
Washington - Donald Trump has finally acknowledged that to best compete against Hillary Clinton he needs more than the bare-bones campaign team that led him to primary success. But many of the most experienced Republican political advisers aren’t willing to work for him. From Texas to New Hampshire, well-respected members of the Republican Party’s professional class say they cannot look past their deep personal and professional reservations about the presumptive presidential nominee. While there are exceptions, many strategists who best understand the mechanics of presidential politics fear that taking a Trump paycheck might stain their resumes, spook other clients and even cause problems at home. They also are reluctant to devote months to a divisive candidate who...
Rome - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday urged Britain and the European Union to manage their divorce responsibly for the sake of global markets and citizens, a day before he was to become the first senior American official to visit London and Brussels since the United Kingdom’s historic referendum. Kerry emphasized the importance of thoughtful cooperation at a time of economic uncertainty and fears about crumbling European unity. He said he would bring a message of U.S. support to both capitals. But he offered no concrete suggestions for how the two sides should make good on the decision by British voters to leave the 28-nation bloc. “The most important thing is that all of us, as leaders, work together to provide as much continuity, as much stability, as...

Thousands of shekels worth of equipment stolen from holy site's maintenance staff. Arab vandals removed a mezuzah from the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hevron on Friday, while the holy site was used by local Muslims for Ramadan prayers. The mezuzah, which adorned the main door of the Tomb, is believed to have been desecrated by the vandals. A storage shed used by the Tomb’s maintenance staff was also broken into, with thousands of shekels worth of equipment stolen. A spokesman for the Hevron Jewish community, Noam Arnon, responded to the theft and likely desecration of the mezuzah, calling on police to offer a substantive response to the incident. “The Committee of Hevron demands that the [special access given to] Muslims for the [Ramadan] holiday be cancelled in th...
